The List Of Blue Jackets In The World Championships Is Growing- 5/5/22
So, a couple weeks ago I shared with you all that Elvis Merzlikins, Goaltender, would be at the World Championships 2022. He's representing his home country of Latvia. A few days ago I announced that Alexander Texier, after a broken finger and time off to grieve his family losses, would take the ice for France. Today, I learned along with you that we'll have 2 Blue Jackets, both Defenders, representing the American team. One is a newer Blue Jacket, Nick Blankenburg. The other is a seasoned veteran, who's spent 3 seasons now with the Blue Jackets, Andrew Peeke.
Nick Blankenburg played only 7 games this season, after being signed when Michigan failed to excel past the NCAA Frozen Four. In those 7 games Blankenburg made his presence know however, scoring 1 goal and 2 assists. He also had 4 penalty minutes, showing he wasn't going to be underestimated for his size at 5'9, ready to play a physical game with the veterans of other teams.
Andrew Peeke was vital this season when the Blue Jackets lost many Defenseman due to Covid protocol and injury. He was one of very few players to be in all 82 games this NHL Season. He scored 2 goals and 13 assists, for a grand total of 15 points. He had a high total of penalty minutes at 60. Watching him come into his spot on this team, all season, was amazing though.
I can't wait to report back to you how well all these players do in Finland. The 2022 World Championships will begin May 13th, as many of these players take 1 of what will be 2 trips to Finland. If any other players are announced to join them, representing their own countries, I'll be sure to let you know 5th Line!
Go CBJ!
