Dallas Stars @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2024-25 NHL Season Game 58

Revenge is a dish best served over ice. Kirill Marchenko was injured the last time these teams met in Dallas three weeks ago, suffering a broken jaw while on the bench from a wayward puck. This wasn't anyone's direct fault, but this is just too good of a lead in when Kirill Marchenko scores the first goal of the game at 00:30 into the game! This would mark his twenty-second goal this season and give Ivan Provorov his nineteenth assist this season on the primary and Dimitri Voronkov his twentieth on the secondary. A few minutes later, Mathiew Oliver would make his way back onto the scoresheet with his eleventh goal this season at 4:37. Damon Severson would add his seventeenth assist this season on the primary while Zach Aston-Reese would add his ninth on the secondary. So, six-point scorers with less than five minutes gone in the game, yeah baby! Now, this is the Dallas Stars, they will fight back, of course. So, when J, Benn scored his fifteenth goal this season at 9:37 I wasn't shocked. W. Johnston would add his thirty-fourth assist this season on the primary while T. Harley would add his twenty-first on the secondary. That said, the Jackets would power through the rest of this period and hold a one-goal lead with the score being 2-1.

Kirill Marchenko would extend the lead by scoring first in the second period at 1:11. This would be his twenty-third goal this season and put him on hattrick watch! Adam Fantilli would have the only assist on this goal and it would become his eighteenth this season. Defenseman Ivan Provorov would again extend the Jackets' lead, making it 4-1, at 8:46. This was his seventh goal this season and would give Kent Johnson his twentieth assist this season on the primary and Captain Boone Jenner his second on the secondary. Unfortunately, two quick mistakes would result in that three-goal lead being cut to just a one-goal lead heading into period three. R. Hintz would score first, making it 4-2 at 9:38 with his twenty-third goal this season. M. Granlund would add his thirty-fifth assist this season on the primary while J Robertson would add his thirty-second on the secondary. Then, at 13:57, J. Robertsson would add goal twenty-four to his season and M. Granlund would add his thirty-sixth assist with the only assist on this goal. So, after an eventful game with one period to go, the score would be a 4-3 Jackets lead.

Making it 5-3 at 2:37 made James van Riemsdyke's twelfth goal this season all the more monumental as he'd give the home team back a two-goal cushion. Sean Kuraly would join the score sheet with the only assist on his goal, his eighth this season. Naturally, the Stars would start pushing hard for a goal and another to equalize this game, and this is where Elvis Merzlikins shown bright, particularly a sliding save to stop former Jacket M. Duchene with roughly 10:00 left in the game. The Stars would bulldoze Elvis Merzlinkins, allowing M. Bourque to score his ninth goal this season at 17:53. The primary assist would be number seventeen this season for E, Dadonov and the secondary would be number nineteen for L. Stankoven. Adam Fantilli would clear the way for a 6-4 Jackets home win with goal seventeen of his season at 19:28. This empty net goal would give Dimitri Voronkov his second assist tonight and twentieth this season on the primary while Kirill Marchenko would add his thirty-sixth assist this season and cap off an eventful night.

Third Star: Adam Fantilli with a 1-1-2 night.

Second Star: Ivan Provorov with a 1-1-2 night.

First Star: Kirill Marchenko with a 2-1-3 night.

The sad news in this two-point victory is that Zach Werenski's home-point streak does end here. He will remain tied with Phil Housley with 22 Games. That said, he can always start another one at home in The Horseshoe on Saturday. Yes, our next home game is the first Stadium Series to hit Columbus, Ohio, ever! But, before the Detroit Red Wings can travel here, we will travel there with some special guests. This will be the 2025 Columbus Blue Jackets Mom's Trip! This is always a fun game to watch and with this team hot in the playoff hunt I'm sure it will be extra special when the puck drops at 7:00 p.m.

GO CBJ!
