Blue Jackets Try To Rally Against Rangers But It's Not Enough

The Blue Jackets opened the scoring with a Voracek goal.  The Rangers would match it though, right before the period ended with a goal from former Blue Jacket, Panarin.  In Period 2, Robinson took the lead for the Blue Jackets again, making it 2-1.  Unfortunately, this wouldn't last.  Kreider would score for the Rangers, followed by Panarin again, and then lastly a goal from Trouba.  This would put the Rangers up 4-2 going into the third period.  Kreider would get another goal past the line of Merzlikins, in the third period.  5-2 Rangers.

After this an odd situation would take place.  A goal would be scored, it was reported to be Gavrikov's.  This wouldn't hold true though.  A Ranger's player would hit Texier just outside of the goal.  Texier somehow made contact with the puck and then fell into the Ranger's goaltender after said goal was scored.  The end result was Ranger's goaltender being injured, Shesterkin would leave the game with just over 6 minutes remaining, and wouldn't return.  Georgiev would take over for him in net, and there was no further scoring on either net after this goal which was later credited to Texier.

The Blue Jackets would fall to the Rangers 5-3.

Personally, from what I saw the team could've done better as a whole.  This isn't fully on the offense, defense or Me likins in net.  There were several times this game was in reach of the Blue Jackets, or even theirs for the taking.  They opened the scoring in the first period, which is great and something which needs to continue.  They kept pace with the team at points too, well.  However, that one-two-three goal situation in period 2 was just a hot streak for the Rangers.  It would've been impossible to stop, but to match it would've been incredible.  This team is capable of that, I have no doubt, they just need more time to work and become all the more cohesive.  As I've said before, this team will go far, if not this season then in one to quickly follow.  Also, keep in mind that the last time the Blue Jackets played the Rangers, in Madison Square Garden, the final score was Rangers over Blue Jackets 5-1.  So, even a 5-3 loss, is an improvement.

Remember, no hockey tomorrow.  The guys need a break!  We'll be back on the ice Monday, as the Red Wings come to visit at 7:00 PM.  Until then...

Go CBJ!
