Why The Vegas Goal Counted- Blue Jackets

It's an odd situation, but being a Columbus Blue Jackets fan, we should all be used to those by now.  Brad Larson, Head Coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets challenged the Vegas Golden Knights game-winning goal for belief it was off-sides.  It was ruled to have not been and was not called back, this good goal gave the Golden Knights a 3-2 lead and eventually that was the final score.  A lot of confusion followed from fans, coaches and players alike after this.  An explanation was given from the NHL and after watching post-game and the video review, many times, I feel I can explain why this goal counted.

It goes to a simple missed call.  Yes, there was an off-sides situation, however, the refs missed this and never stopped play.  The play went on and the puck went back into regulation space which then led to the good goal by the Golden Knights.  It was the right call based on the review, but a mistake which stings, no doubt.  The exact reasoning given by the NHL was this, in part.  “The play immediately before is off-side but the Linesman did not whistle that play dead. Video review cannot go back and review that play; the Situation Room can only rule on the latest entry by Vegas, which was on-side and resulted in a goal.”  Via Twitter @JacketsInsider.

Brad Larson stated that he shouldn't have gotten wrapped up in the moment, emotionally, and challenged the play.  He took full responsibility for the error, and in my mind having an honorable coach matters more than an annoying technicality.  As he hinted to, it's time to move on and focus on Monday night. against the Sabres, in Buffalo.  He is right.
