Big Goaltending Shift For Blue Jackets
Well, we all knew there had to be a reason for Monday night, goaltending wise, and now I think we know. It's sad to report that both goaltenders, Elvis Merzlikins and Joonas Korpisalo, are both ill. Thankfully, the team has cleared up any Covid-19 rumors before they could start, as it is a different illness the team states. (Via @BlueJackersPR.) So, this give Tarasov a very likely start, who has been pulled up from the minors. If needed, according to @JacketsInsider, Merzlikins would likely back him up, but only in a serious circumstance like injury. Knock on wood that doesn't happen, of course.
Tarasov is 6'6, so good and tall for a goaltender. He is 196 pounds. Tarasov, having just been called up from the Monsters, was traveling to Dallas today. So, as @JacketsInsider reported also today on Twitter, the Blue Jackets played practice today with a stand-in goalie. Who? According to @JacketsInsider "a 36-year-old construction worker from Dallas." Hey, if a Zamboni driver can fill in for an NHL last season, why not a construction worker for a practice this season.
Tonight will be interesting.
Go CBJ!
