Blue Jackets Captain, Boone Jenner, And 2 Others Players On Teams Covid-19 List

If you thought the last two losses were grim, I've got news for you, this news is far worse.  The Blue Jackets now have a Covid-19 list again.  Max Domi was the only one on such this season, from Halloween until mid November.  Now, instead of one player, three are on the list.  All three are common names, and one is the teams leader.  Captain of the Blue Jackets, Boone Jenner, is easily the most notable name on the list.  You can understand why this is, given his Captain role, but he also has a high 18 point season going right now.  So, that makes this news even worse.  

Sadly, Jack Roslovic is another on this list, and also a high point scorer this season.  A talented forward, he has 13 points this season. Many of those being assists, 8 to be exact.  

Lastly, the list wouldn't be complete without our Defensive Line taking a hit.  They are already struggling and will now be without Gabriel Carlsson as well.  In only 13 games this season he's had a goal and three assists.  

Personally, given the lucky win in overtime over the Kraken, followed by back to back losses in Canada, to the Canucks and Oilers, this team can't afford to lose anyone.  These three players above especially.  I hope this list doesn't grow as the team completes their "road trip" tomorrow evening, in Buffalo, New York.  I put "road trip" in quotes because this was expected to be a 5-game-road-trip.  It was cut short however, as the team returned home, after the Flames games were put on hold due to Covid-19 quarantines and cases.  NHL wide, I personally wish all teams the very best.  Several have been shut down or have men out due to Covid-19.  No time is right to have this happen, but before the holidays just makes this news sting a little more, to both report and read.  

The Buffalo Sabres game is still set for tomorrow night at 7:00 PM EST.  The team will head there cold, as todays practices before departing for New York was canceled, due to the news I've reported above.  Hopefully this holds true, and neither team has more news like this before puck drop.

Brenden Gaunce, Nick Blankenburg, and Jake Bean Sign NHL Deals Away From Columbus Blue Jackets

The 2024 Trade Deadline gives and takes away every season. Today, the Columbus Blue Jackets signed Sean Monahan to a deal that will last five years and give him a 5.5 Million AAV. This was the brighter side of the day as several Columbus Blue Jackets and Cleveland Monsters players signed elsewhere, including a favorite of mine.  The 30-year-old Center, Brenden Gaunce, left us to join the Minnesota Wild. He agreed to a deal that will go through the 2025-26 NHL Season. He was in Columbus last season for 24 games and had 4 points with an even 2 goals and 2 assists. I have yet to see what his contract is valued at, but nevertheless, I wish him good luck with the Wild.  Jake Bean had the 5th Line divided. Some saw value in him staying, while others wanted him traded months ago. He wasn't traded today but signed to become a Calgary Flame. Rest in Peace, Johnny and Mathew Gaudreau- Part One

I've learned something over the roughly two and a half weeks since we lost Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Mathew; I will never be ready to write this blog. I've been avoiding this because my words seem hollow and empty to me; like anything I could say would be redundant and not enough. August 29th, 2024 will forever be burned into my brain alongside July 4th, 2021, the date we lost goaltender, Matiss Kivlenieks, in a firework accident when he used himself to shield others. To say this franchise and its fans have suffered too many tragedies since I started covering the team in May 2020 is an understatement. When we lost 'Kivi' I never imagined doing this again, but I am, and I won't lie to you because I never have; I hate that I have to do this again.
