Blue Jackets Lineup Updates- 2/19/22

It's a busy day regarding Blue Jackets, so let's get to the line changes.  First, after a good, first run for Fix-Wolansky, the team has sent him back to the AHL Cleveland Monsters.  This comes as Danforth returns to the team, post knee injury.  So, it's a bittersweet moment.  However, I have a feeling that with the way Fix-Wolansky played in his few short games, that we haven't seen the last of him!  In just 5 games played, Fix-Wolansky had both a goal and an assist.  It proves he's ready to face the pressure and challenge of NHL play.  A great play to have waiting in the wings for this team.  

Another good note for the lineup.  The only player who had been on the Covid-19 NHL Reserve List, for the Columbus Blue Jackets, has returned to practice.  Personally, I don't see him coming back tomorrow against the Sabres.  However, seeing him back is great in general, especially after Head Coach Larson mentioned he was "feeling better" in a press conference this week.  It's just something you remember as a fan and blogger for this team, as you want every player to be healed, injury or illness wise, as soon as possible.  Bemstrom, I'm thrilled you're back with your team!  

As you all know I mainly use Jeff Svoboda as a source.  His tweets I  use as a reference are all listed below, as I'll always give my sources credit.  The two two items were just simple roster updates.  However, this next item I give full credit to Jeff Svoboda for.  Without his eyes I wouldn't know as I'm not at practice for this team!  Korpisalo is still out, it appears.  Remember, it was released on Wednesday that he was "day-to-day" with a "lower body injury".  Until he returns Berube is with the team, from the AHL Cleveland Monsters, and will backup Merzlikins.  This was the case in practice today, according to Jeff Svoboda, and could definitely happen for tomorrow night's game as well.  I'll update you on such a decision when it is made.  Remember, the same decision was made right before the game, so look for my post at the according time.  Puck drop is set for 6:00 PM EST, meaning we may not know until 5-5:30 PM EST, at the earliest.

Brenden Gaunce, Nick Blankenburg, and Jake Bean Sign NHL Deals Away From Columbus Blue Jackets

The 2024 Trade Deadline gives and takes away every season. Today, the Columbus Blue Jackets signed Sean Monahan to a deal that will last five years and give him a 5.5 Million AAV. This was the brighter side of the day as several Columbus Blue Jackets and Cleveland Monsters players signed elsewhere, including a favorite of mine.  The 30-year-old Center, Brenden Gaunce, left us to join the Minnesota Wild. He agreed to a deal that will go through the 2025-26 NHL Season. He was in Columbus last season for 24 games and had 4 points with an even 2 goals and 2 assists. I have yet to see what his contract is valued at, but nevertheless, I wish him good luck with the Wild.  Jake Bean had the 5th Line divided. Some saw value in him staying, while others wanted him traded months ago. He wasn't traded today but signed to become a Calgary Flame. This contract will take him through the 2025-26 NHL Season like Brenden Gaunce. It'll pay him roughly 1.75 million each season. Appearing in 72 gam

Rest in Peace, Johnny and Mathew Gaudreau- Part One

I've learned something over the roughly two and a half weeks since we lost Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Mathew; I will never be ready to write this blog. I've been avoiding this because my words seem hollow and empty to me; like anything I could say would be redundant and not enough. August 29th, 2024 will forever be burned into my brain alongside July 4th, 2021, the date we lost goaltender, Matiss Kivlenieks, in a firework accident when he used himself to shield others. To say this franchise and its fans have suffered too many tragedies since I started covering the team in May 2020 is an understatement. When we lost 'Kivi' I never imagined doing this again, but I am, and I won't lie to you because I never have; I hate that I have to do this again. My heart is shattered, especially for the Gaudreau family, and I don't think I'll ever find all the pieces. The hockey community will forever be changed by this tragedy.
