Game Recap Blue Jackets @ Sabres 2/10/22

At 9:05 Roslovic would open the scoring in Buffalo.  The assists would go to Gavrikov and Fix-Wolansky.  Not only would this be the only goal in the first period, but it would expand on Fix-Wolansky's incredible NHL start.  His first game, against the Capitals, he scored his first goal.  This means currently Fix-Wolansky is 2-0-0 in his NHL career, so far.  

Period 2 the Sabres would get back into the game in a big way.  Dahlin would score at 3:27.  Then, his teammate, Okposo would score at 18:23.  The Sabres would gain back the lead in this period.  

Period 3 would be a mix of both teams, goal wise.  First, at 0:12 , Tuch would score for the Sabres.  However, at 4:48, Gaunce would score his first as a Blue Jacket!  This would make the score 3-2, Sabres.  A side note, Bayreuther would leave the ice during this period, due to injury.  When I see an update I'll be sure to let you know 5th Line.  Per Jeff Svoboda on Twitter, with about 7:00 remaining, "Gavin Bayreuther has not returned for #CBJ since he left after crashing into the boards." Hopefully he's alright. Just shortly after this Twitter update, another score came from the Blue Jackets! This was at 14:25, and by way of Oliver Bjorkstrand! Snapping a long goal drought. Assists are credited to Laine, who continues a multi-game point streak, and another assist to Voracek. This is his 29th assist of the year, so far. Tied 3-3! You all know that means Overtime!

However, it wouldn't last long! Voracek would score just second into Overtime, 0:16 to be exact! The Captain, Jenner, get's an assist. 4-3 Is your final 5th Line, in Overtime! Currently it's a 4 out of 4 point road trip start, making up games around the holidays, which were postponed and rescheduled due to Covid-19 complications. Well done! If you were curious, so far out of 9 Overtime games this season, the Blue Jackets have only lost 1. Fun right? Even if it's only 0:16, extra hockey is good hockey for the team this year!

The next game is in Oh Canada! It will be at the Canadians, on February 12th. Also, set an alert on your phone if possible, this puck drop is at 12:30 PM. So a nice afternoon game we don't get too often.

Brenden Gaunce, Nick Blankenburg, and Jake Bean Sign NHL Deals Away From Columbus Blue Jackets

The 2024 Trade Deadline gives and takes away every season. Today, the Columbus Blue Jackets signed Sean Monahan to a deal that will last five years and give him a 5.5 Million AAV. This was the brighter side of the day as several Columbus Blue Jackets and Cleveland Monsters players signed elsewhere, including a favorite of mine.  The 30-year-old Center, Brenden Gaunce, left us to join the Minnesota Wild. He agreed to a deal that will go through the 2025-26 NHL Season. He was in Columbus last season for 24 games and had 4 points with an even 2 goals and 2 assists. I have yet to see what his contract is valued at, but nevertheless, I wish him good luck with the Wild.  Jake Bean had the 5th Line divided. Some saw value in him staying, while others wanted him traded months ago. He wasn't traded today but signed to become a Calgary Flame. This contract will take him through the 2025-26 NHL Season like Brenden Gaunce. It'll pay him roughly 1.75 million each season. Appearing in 72 gam

Rest in Peace, Johnny and Mathew Gaudreau- Part One

I've learned something over the roughly two and a half weeks since we lost Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Mathew; I will never be ready to write this blog. I've been avoiding this because my words seem hollow and empty to me; like anything I could say would be redundant and not enough. August 29th, 2024 will forever be burned into my brain alongside July 4th, 2021, the date we lost goaltender, Matiss Kivlenieks, in a firework accident when he used himself to shield others. To say this franchise and its fans have suffered too many tragedies since I started covering the team in May 2020 is an understatement. When we lost 'Kivi' I never imagined doing this again, but I am, and I won't lie to you because I never have; I hate that I have to do this again. My heart is shattered, especially for the Gaudreau family, and I don't think I'll ever find all the pieces. The hockey community will forever be changed by this tragedy.
