A Hard Fought Game Results In Bruins Over Blue Jackets 5-4 In Shootout- But Still A Win As Columbus Retires Their First Jersey Number, #61

After the electric joy of retiring the very first Columbus Blue Jackets number, 61 Rick Nash, there was a whole game!  Tonight was a Columbus hockey lovers dream.  Rick Nash not only watched his number be imortalized in the rafters, forever, but also did a ceremonial puck drop with both Nick Foligno and Boone Jenner.  3 Blue Jackets Captains, one incredible night.  Now, for the game!

Period 1 saw the Bruins open the scoring with a goal from DeBrusk at 10:39.  The Bruins 1-0 lead wouldn't last long though.  At 16:57 Nyquist would score number 14 of his 2021-22 NHL Season.  Assists would go to Captain Jenner and Laine.  Before I go any further, because of Laine's recent 11-game-point-streak, I'm going to point this out incase we have another from him.  Right now, Laine's is riding a 3-game-point-streak.  In the loss to the Devils, Laine had a goal and an assist.  Against the Kings, last night, Laine had another goal.  Tonight. Laine has an assist on this Nyquist goal.  2 goals and 2 assists, a total of 4 points, over 3 games.  It's early, I know, but I'm keeping track anyway!  At this point the Blue Jackets would be tied with the Bruins, 1-1.  That is until Gavrikov scored at exactly 19:00.  2-1 Blue Jackets with assists going to Danforth and Kukan.  This would be your score after Period 1, 2-1 Blue Jackets lead.

Period 2, I think we can agree we all had a panic attack 5th Line, when we saw the Werenski collision, which ended with him falling into Merzlikins goal.  How did this happen?  A Bruins player fell forward and Werenski fell over him, went airborne, and into the net.  What happened to Merzlikins?  He jumped over the falling Merzlikins, clearing his whole body, and then landed on his feat...in his skates!  Once we saw Werenski stay in the game, I feel we all marveled at that amazing jump.  I still don't know how he did that.  As a former Track & Field runner, he could handle hurdles, no problem!  Now, regarding Werenski, he does things the Werenski way.  Meaning yes, Bruins Haula scored 1:51 into the second period, before this happened.  However, if you trip Werenski, you're going to pay.  At 14:28, Bjorkstrand to Voracek, and a goal by Werenski!  3-2 lead for Blue Jackets going into the third period.

So, unfortunately, at 4:40 Smith would score for the Bruins.  This would knot the score, again, with a tie; this time 3-3.  Then, another Bruins goal would go just past Merzlikins.  This would be scored by Bergeron, and much to the dismay of the 5th Line, send the Bruins to a 4-3 lead.  That lead would last until just 0:01.80 seconds left in Period 3, when the Blue Jackets would find themselves a goal on a Foligno penalty Powerplay.  Skate, skate as fast as you can, you can't catch him, he's the Voracek man!  (Cheesy, I know, but I love it!)  Laine and Kuraly with assists.  This takes Laine up to 2 goals and 3 assists in his last 3 games. Overtime we go!

Overtime.  Great offense.  Great Defense.  Great Goaltending.  Thank you, next, a Shootout!

Shooter 1- Laine- X

Shooter 2- Nyquist- X

Shooter 3 - Pastrmak would score and Voracek wouldn't.

Final score would be 5-4 Bruins, but wow what a game and night, still, for the NHL home team Columbus Blue Jackets.

Also, well done 5th Line, you packed Nationwide Arena and delivered the Columbus Blue Jackets another Franchise Record.  "Tonight's #CBJ attendance: 19,434. It is the largest crowd in franchise history." (Jeff Svoboda, direct quoted tweet from @JacketsInsider Twitter Account.)

I will keep you all posted during the next few days the team has no games.  There were some bad falls tonight, Werenski, Voracek and others.  Many penalties were missed as well, and I'll admit that tonight, there were.  Hopefully, these and other guys of ours are okay.  If something does unfortunately arise I'll quickly let you know 5th Line.

Again, congratulations to Rick Nash and family.  Well done to the Blue Jackets, a great game to all.

Go CBJ!
