A Shootout Win For Blue Jackets Against Wild! 3/11/22

What.  A.  Game.  We had Goals.  We had Assists.  We had amazing Goaltending.  Also, there were some "roughing penalties" 5th Line.  In a night when truly every second counted, this was a nail bitter, and a great one to see in person or on TV.  Let's recap, shall we?

One of the youngest stars this season has been Chinakhov.  He was originally sent to the Cleveland Monsters and took that chance to work, and work did he ever.  He's become a staple now in the Columbus Blue Jackets lineup, due to injury and illness of other roster staples.  Every game he's in the thick of the battle and that was never more true than tonight.  At 13:31 he would connect with Bean and Domi to score the first goal of the night.  With just seconds left, at 19:34 though, Kaprizov would also score for the Wild.  After 20 minutes this would leave the game tied at 1-1.

At 13:33 in the second period, the Wild would get another lucky goal.  By this I mean it hit just right.  The goal was scored by Zucoarello.  This would be the only goal in the whole second period, meaning a 2-1 Wild lead, at this point.

With seconds to spare in a heated third period, Werenski would come through in the nick of time.  I'm not kidding, his goal to tie the game and force an Overtime was at 19:28.  You don't get much more of a nail biting moment that!  Assists on this goal with to Bjorkstrand and Nyquist.  2-2 tie and to Overtime we go.

Now, that Overtime would just amount to a lot of great Elvis Merzlikins saves.  No surprise here on that.  Another great, but not shocking moment, the Shootout results.  In the second round Chinakhov would score his second goal of the night and 8th overall in this 2021-22 NHL Season.  Yes, he was a good player at the beginning of the season.  Personally, when he was sent to Cleveland I was a bit surprised.  However, seeing him grow into an even better hockey player has been so fun, and a huge congrats to him and the full team.  After last nights Shutout loss, this was exactly what they needed to rebound for the remainder of the season.

Three Stars:  1.  Merzlikins.  2.  Chinakhov.  3.  Werenski.

Next game is sure to be a great one.  The Vegas Golden Knights will come to Columbus on Sunday, March 13th.  Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM EST.

In the mean time, we may have some unfortunate news coming down the pipeline tomorrow.  Jake Voracek was hit pretty rough in the third period.  No call or penalty was given when a knee to knee hit took place, which left Voracek on the ice.  Another hit like this happened with Patrik Laine during the forced Overtime matchup.  When I was told by my best friend, who was at home watching on TV, I cringed.  He did go back to the locker room and we didn't see neither player, Voracek or Laine, return to the Wild-Blue Jackets Game, tonight.  The team is unfortunately great at rebounding and rising to the challenge to win for their injured teammates.  As Kuraly was quoted saying in the Blue Jackets Postgame show, "the answer was in the back of the net.."  Doesn't that just give you chills?  Great quote.  Again, I really hope both are okay and available for Sunday.  Not just because we play the Golden Knights, but because these are our players and as fans we never want to see them hurt.  Fair statement, we've seen enough of that this season to be done with it this season.

If there are any updates, regarding Voracek, Laine or any other players, I'll let you know.  Wishing them the best and great job Jackets!

Go CBJ!
