Blue Jackets Face Narrow Loss Of 5-4 Against Maple Leafs After Incredible Comeback

If you stopped watching tonight's Maple Leafs @ Blue Jackets game after the Maple Leafs went up 3-0 after one, I feel sorry for you.  Those scores were from Mikheyev at 8:06, Marner at 14:01 and Matthews at 17:06.  Why do I feel bad for you?  If you turned it off at this point you missed a great second period of Blue Jackets hockey.

At 1:45 the guys would come out swinging.  At 1:45 Kuraly would find the net.  An Assist would go to Domi.  Then, the rink would be quiet until 18:49, when Bjorkstrand would find thee net.  Two Assists this time, one to Nyquist and one to Peek.  Side note, there were also some great fights this period, especially Domi's!

At 2:28 Roslovic would score in the third period, tying the game up and completing a 3 goal deficit comeback.  This goal would have another Assist for both Domi and Nyquist.  Now, I know what you're thinking, "the Maple Leafs scored two more times after that".  Yes, I know.  Keep in mind though that this is an incredibly strong, likely playoff bound, NHL team.  For them to bounce back after a bad 1st Period, in the way they did, is no small feet.  Those other two Maple Leafs goals came from Kerfoo at 4:19 and Bunting at 11:21.  This would make the game now 5-3 Maple Leafs lead.   Hang on 5th Line, remember what I said about turning off games!  A Powerplay allows a Laine goal!  This makes a 4 game point Streak now for Laine, with 3 goals and 2 assists, for 5 total points.  The Assists would go to Werenski and Voracek.  Time of the goal would be 19:21, and sadly this wouldn't leave enough time for another goal.  The Maple Leafs narrowly beat the Blue Jackets 5-4.

Again, some of you may disagree with me, and you're welcome to.  However, this was a great game.  The Blue Jackets were way down, by 3 goals, and came back to test one of the best NHL teams this season.  For a young team with a new Head Coach, that's amazing work!  Again, well done to Merzlikins, who has proven time again he's well worth his contract extension last August.  The Defense needs to do a bit more to protect him.  If this could be accomplished the sky's the limit for this team.  I believe that as fact.

Next game is away on Thursday night.  We travel to New York, well, they do anyway.  Puck drop is at 7:30 PM EST at the new Islanders Arena.  So, should be fun.  We'll talk soon 5th Line!

Go CBJ!
