Blue Jackets Fall Hard- Shutout 6-0 Loss To Islanders
So, that happened. I'm not trying to be funny or sarcastic, either. I'm a bit shocked at how tonight ended with a 6-0 Shutout loss in New York Vs. the Islanders. Alright, let's go through the game review and then we'll discuss tomorrow. Deal?
Period 1
10:32 Goal by Nelson.
Period 2
6:08 Goal by Bailey.
13:49 Goal by Lee.
17:44 Goal by Pageau.
Period 3
11:57 Goal by Lee.
19:58 Goal by Lee. (Hattrick)
Ultimately, again, 6-0 final in favor of the Islanders. If there was ever a time to say thank you, next, I feel it's tonight. So many things just didn't click. It's been said a lot throughout the day, and it is a good point, this is Korpisalo's first game in a month. How you protect and play with each goaltender is different, and I think that's part of what's throwing our Defense. Between the constant switching of Goaltenders, due to illness and injury, partnered with the constant switching of Defenseman for the same reason, the inconsistent winning doesn't surprise me.
As for the Offense, I can be a back seat Coach any day, I don't like doing it but Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre has made a constant and great point after many of these blowout losses this season: "shoot the puck". It's true, if you have a chance you have to gain the confidence to take it. That's a small puck and a big net, if there is a sliver of daylight, it might win your team the game. Worst case you don't score, best case you do and change the momentum of the whole game. Such confidence comes with practice and time, again so many of these players will be amazing in a couple years, once their just a bit older. "With age comes wisdom" and that's my quote for you all tonight after a tough loss.
Another note to keep in mind. We all learned about Alexander Texier's sad situation today. He has no set date to return, after not just a broken finger in January, but now what is at least 2 losses within his close group of support. We're unsure if these losses are family or friends, and even for how much we care about him as fans, this is his business to discuss. For that reason you know I have the respect for this team and player to not speculate. I will remind you all though, it's hard to say when the team learned of Texier's situation, and they likely know more than we do. For that reason, maybe be kind enough to come them a bit of slack regarding tonight's loss. It was clear tonight wasn't the best night for everyone, and my gut does wonder if this was an unforeseen and somber shakeup before tonight.
Tomorrow night we return to Nationwide Arena. Again, I'm happy to say I'll be there in person, so the game recap I do, AKA this, will be later again. I thank you 5th Line for understanding. To be with you all after 2 years last Friday was amazing, I can't wait to be back again. It's the Wild @ Blue Jackets, with a puck drop at 7:00 PM EST. It is on Bally Sports Ohio, so no need to worry.
One last thing 5th Line. Injury note: we did see Justin Danforth, who just signed a 2 year contract to stay in Columbus, leave tonight's game in Period 1. He was announced to not come back to the ice, by CBJ Radio and other team Twitter accounts, during Period 2. Hopefully he's alright. If anything is released tomorrow, before 4:30 PM EST, I'll be sure to post it here. Otherwise, I'll do so when home. Wishing him the best for sure, we do not need another injury!
