Blue Jackets Pick Up A Point In 4-3 Overtime Loss To Jets In Winnipeg- 3/25/22

Period 1 was eventful tonight in Winnipeg.  Speaking of, the Jets would have the first goal of the night.  This came from Toninato at 7:14.  This goal would be followed with another Jets goal, at 12:30, by Connor.  However, the Blue Jackets would get on the board before the period would end.  At 13:01, Boqvist would announce "I'm back" with a goal in his first game back from injury.  Assists would go t Nyquist and Roslovic.  So, after Period 1 the Jets would lead, but only by a single goal.

In Period 2 the Blue Jackets would tie the game, early.  Gaunce, at 3:22, would find the Jets net.  On this goal only Bemstrom would get an Assist.  2-2 tie, and this would hold for a while, almost the whole period, actually.  However, the Jets would get a Powerplay and corresponding goal, thanks to a lucky bounce of Blue Jackets Goaltender, Elvis Merzlikins, gloved hand.  This would be at 19:29 and by Morrissey.  At the end of 2 we'd have a 3-2 Jets lead.

It would go down to the last moment in Period 3.  After no score it would appear the Jets would have an Empty Net Goal.  However, after a penalty call against the Jets, at the time of that goal, the Blue Jackets would go on a Powerplay.  One which they would waste no time on, which is good since they had under 0:20 to score or lose!  At 19:46 Bjorkstrand would gain the goal needed for an Overtime win attempt.  Assists to Werenski and Voracek.  3-3 tie and to Overtime we go!

Sadly, it wouldn't last long.  At just0:21 into that Overtime Ehlers would score for the Jets.  The final in Winnipeg would be a 4-3 Jets win.  Even with that outcome this was a great showing for the Blue Jackets.  The Defense stepped up well after Period 1, making the chances for the Jets in Periods 2 and 3 slim.  The Offense continued to push.  Best of all, after Period 1, the team seemed to do a better job at protecting Merzlikins in the net, also.  Not a win goal wise, but definitely a win in strategy, which is happily improving.  Again, the stronger this team finishes this season, the better they'll start next season, hands down.  A point is a point though, and thanks to Overtime, the Blue Jackets did get one tonight!

The next game is tomorrow night, so yay we don't have to wait long at all for more CBJ Hockey.  This team will take on the Minnesota Wild, in Minnesota, at 8:00 PM EST.  It is not on Bally Sports, so plan accordingly to watch or listen to the game.  Make sure you do though, remember the Wild made a trade with the Blackhawks for Marc-Andre Fleury, Monday.  So tomorrow night should be one fiery game you won't want to miss!

For an update, the Blue Jackets have 68 points currently.  The Capitals, who we would be chasing in the Playoff Wildcard Race have 82 points.  They did beat the Islanders tonight, oddly enough in a Shootout, 4-3.  We do have 1 more game to play than they do in the current standings.  Again, this is super unlikely to amount to anything for the Blue Jackets beyond a strong finish to a rebuild season, but I do like to keep everyone updated on the numbers.

We'll talk tomorrow 5th Line.

Go CBJ!
