Blue Jackets Player Announcements Before Tonight's Game, At Home, Against Golen Knights- 3/13/22

Okay, 5th  Line, I waited to do this for a reason.  Today there have been a lot of if's, then's, and changes, just since this morning.  One thing we know for sure from yesterday, Captain Boone Jenner is definitely out.  It also turns out that this situation was a long time coming, according to Brad Larson, via Jeff Svoboda.  The Captain had been "battling this for a while" (Jeff Svoboda) but now he can't play through it anymore, apparently.  Seeing him on IR made Brad Larson state that the Blue Jackets Captain has a "crushed soul" right now, and I'm not surprised.  Jenner was given that "C" because he wants to be here and in every game with this team.  To sit out for him, it would be crushing, no doubt.  Remember Fix-Wolansky has been brought down from the AHL Cleveland Monsters to fill his spot in the lineup tonight, and likely the near future, too.  

This one comes as no surprise to me, and likely not to many of you, either.  Voracek is also on the Columbus Blue Jackets Injury Reserve List.  Given his rough collision, which resulted in an NHL max $5,000.00 fine to Marcus Foligno, I'm sure that knee of his needs some rest.  Gaunce is back and thankfully will fill in for Voracek, tonight.    

In addition, Danforth, who was nailed in the foot by a puck, in a recent game, is also unable to return.  He'll sit out, again tonight, as well.  

Would you like some good news now 5th Line?  I know I sure do.  So, firs and foremost, and this just seems fitting, Elvis Merzlikins will guard the Blue Jackets tonight, against the Las Vegas Golden Knights.  After his incredible performance in the Wild game, overtime and shootout, this seems like an easy choice for Coach Larson.  

Some more good news, we can all breathe a sigh of relief, Laine will play tonight.  How much is anyone's guess.  However, he will be in the lineup.  Another name in the lineup?  Boqvist.  So, see, there's a bit of good news today.  Projected lines below (Via Jeff Svoboda Tweet)

We'll just have to wait and see how tonight goes. I have faith in this team, they can grind our a win with the best of any team in this NHL. Tonight's game, as the Vegas Golden Knights come to Nationwide Arena, has a puck drop of 7:00 PM EST. It is on Bally Sports, which is where I'll be watching!

Zach Werenski Adds Another Achievement to His 2024-25 NHL Season

Normally, I have to share articles by the NHL because I'm usually working when this kind of news is announced, but today, I'm not! Zach Werenski is proving to doubters that this NHL Season will go down as one of the best in his career. Today, we learned of another achievement he's added to the long list of record-breaking moments, point streaks, and team-leading assists and total points. Zach Werenski, across the league, has added the Third Star of January to this list now, too. Aside from his spectacular goal last night to clench the win for his team in overtime at the Utah Hockey Club, the man has poured on the points in the first month of 2025. His total for just 31 days was six goals and eleven assists for a grand total of seventeen points. He accomplished this over the span of just fourteen games. New York Islanders @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 4/17/25

And so it comes to an end: The season that started as a nightmare ends in a way we could've only dreamed. Yes, I know we're not chasing a Stanley Cup in 2025, but for how this season began...this season shouldn't have ended like this. I'm optimistic, even in light of injuries, pain, and loss, and even I wouldn't have thought that we'd battle the Montreal Canadians for the final Eastern Wild Card spot at game 82 this season.
