Somber Update On Alexander Texier- 3/10/22

It's a somber shock to us all.  This season started with a banner going up for our fallen goaltender, Matiss Kivlenieks, who was lost in a firework accident over the summer.  In December, we learned Patrik Laine lost his dad, unexpectedly, while out due to injury.  Now, we've learned Texier has been and will remain in France after he was gifted "Indefinite Leave" by his NHL Columbus Blue Jackets team leaders, due to "personal losses" (Kekalainen full words below).  Whomever he's lost it has to be incredibly rough, not just for the sake of loss, but for him also only being 22 years of age.

The young player had been having an incredible season.  Over his time in this 2021-22 NHL Season he only have 12 minutes of time, total, in the penalty box.  Over 36 games he had 11 Goals of his own and 9 Assist on others, making a grad total in points 20.  Normally, at the end of such sentences I put "so far".  I don't believe this is right in this instance.  Kekalainen used the word "losses", meaning more than one person has passed away whom he was close to.  With only 24 games remaining in the season, my heart truly goes out to him, as I don't feel he'll return during that short timeframe.  For that reason I'll give him his due praise now, in such a personal, somber post.  He was on track with the highest scorers this season, and had already outdone his personal best in the NHL.  This is already somber, but I feel this makes such news harder to hear, and just gut-wrenching to accept.  You know what I mean, 5th Line?  

Personally, like many other fans, I was nervous about a trade.  This news, in my mind, almost makes me wish that had been the shocking, sad news.  Almost.  #42, please know that your "Blue Jackets family" (as stated by Kekalainen) goes beyond that locker room.  Your fans, the full 5th line, are thinking of you and your family at this unimaginable time.  The proof of this is all over social media tonight, and I know it will continue on, long after you've returned.  I myself must say that I wish you and your family the very best, and hope to see you back soon, but not too soon.  We all love you Tex and an ocean away, that won't ever change.

Zach Werenski Adds Another Achievement to His 2024-25 NHL Season

Normally, I have to share articles by the NHL because I'm usually working when this kind of news is announced, but today, I'm not! Zach Werenski is proving to doubters that this NHL Season will go down as one of the best in his career. Today, we learned of another achievement he's added to the long list of record-breaking moments, point streaks, and team-leading assists and total points. Zach Werenski, across the league, has added the Third Star of January to this list now, too. Aside from his spectacular goal last night to clench the win for his team in overtime at the Utah Hockey Club, the man has poured on the points in the first month of 2025. His total for just 31 days was six goals and eleven assists for a grand total of seventeen points. He accomplished this over the span of just fourteen games. New York Islanders @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 4/17/25

And so it comes to an end: The season that started as a nightmare ends in a way we could've only dreamed. Yes, I know we're not chasing a Stanley Cup in 2025, but for how this season began...this season shouldn't have ended like this. I'm optimistic, even in light of injuries, pain, and loss, and even I wouldn't have thought that we'd battle the Montreal Canadians for the final Eastern Wild Card spot at game 82 this season.
