Zach Werenski's Huge Columbus Blue Jackets Milestone, 6 Seasons In The Making- 3/8/22

To be honest, this was posted via Jeff Svoboda a few hours ago.  However, I wanted Justin Danforth to have his moment, regarding his 2-year extension.  Now since that post has been up for a few hours, I want to highlight the incredible franchise record Werenski just set and 5th Line, it's a big one!

Last night, thanks to his assist on the final goal of the game, Werenski made Columbus Blue Jackets Franchise history.  He gained an Assist point in the last few seconds of Period 3, against the Toronto Maple Leafs, when Laine scored on his pass.  This gave him a grand total of 224 points in his 386 games in a Blue Jackets jersey.  This total consists of 70 Goals and an incredible 150 Assists.  It's an impressive total, which is made all the more impressive when you compare it to the former Defensive total point record holder, Seth Jones.  His record, was 223 total points, over his 381 games played in a Columbus Bleu Jackets Jersey.  This consisted of 50 Goals and an impressive 173 Assists.  With that quick Assist last night, Werenski is truly the king of the Blue Jackets Defense, as he now holds the highest cumulative total points for the position in franchise history.  It seems fitting to write this about #8 on March 8th, right 5th Line?  I certainly think so.

Not only is this an astonishing record to set, Zach Werenski is only 24-years-old.  Further, his contract extension, before this season began, will leave him with this team through the NHL's 2027-28 Season.  Imagine the possibilities.  Gives you chills, right?  If you had any doubt before as to why the team agreed to pay him 57.5 Million over that contracted time, I think Werenski just proved to you why he's worth that massive chunk of change.

Congratulations to you #8.

Blue Jackets PR Tweet, Retweeted by Jeff Svoboda, @JacketsInsider:  "With one assist in tonight's game, Werenski (74-150-224, 386 GP) has surpassed Seth Jones (50-173-223, 381 GP) for most career points in #CBJ history among blueliners.
