2-1 Loss For Blue Jackets In Shootout Against Senators- 4/22/22

Happy Community Night 5th Line!  Also, congrats to the MVP of the night, Jack Roslovic.  Not only was he honored for his Columbus Ohio charity, but he also had the first Blue Jackets goal and goal of the night!  It would come at 11:20 into Period 1.  This is his 20th goal of the season as he continues to drive his highest goal total season ever.  Assists would go to the young Sillinger and the even younger Johnson.  This marks Johnson's second NHL point and second assist since joining the Blue Jackets just a couple weeks ago.  Good for him!

After Period 1 we'd have a score of 1-0 in favor of the Blue Jackets.  The Senators came out to play in the second period.  They would score, but it would be challenged by the Columbus Blue Jackets.  To fans excitement and shock, the goal would be called offsides and not count!  After 40 minutes of hockey, that 1-0 Blue Jackets lead would continue to hold.

Unfortunately, in Period 3 the Senators would finally get one past Merzlikins which would count.  This would be done by Thachuk at 7:06.  1-1 tie at this point and this would continue through the end of Period 3.  You know what that means 5th Line, Overtime!

As we start Overtime, it's nice to see Blankenburg gaining so much ice time.  He's definitely earned it.  I'm still amazed as I listen/watch these games how in the game both Johnson and himself are.  It's hard to believe they just signed with Columbus a couple weeks ago.  Back to Overtime, it was exhilarating and fast hockey.  With that being said, my next words should make perfect sense, Shootout!

Yes, 5 more minutes of hockey still wasn't enough tonight.  Again, are any of us really surprised!  I'm not.

Roslovic-  No Goal

Batherson-  Over the Net

Nyquist-  No Goal

Stutzle-  Goal

Voracek-  No Goal

Your final after a shootout would be a 2-1 win for the Senators.  Even still, what a great game full of big moments.  A huge congratulations to Mr. Gavrikov on his 200 NHL game accomplishment tonight as well.  This season's been a huge one for him with 75 games played and a total of 33 points, consisting of 5 goals and 28 assists.  Tonight the Offense looked good, and the Defense did protect Merzlikins fairly well also.  34 shots on the Senators net for the Blue Jackets, while they had only 24 on ours.

Next game is Kid's Takeover on Sunday!  Puck drop is set for 1:00 PM as the Oilers come to Columbus.  If there are any team updates between now and then, I'll bring them to you here.

Go CBJ!
