5th Line, We Have Emergency Recalls- 4/3/22

Yes 5th Line that's right, Emergency Recalls, as in plural.  Per a team release this afternoon we'll see both Jake Christensen, a member of the AHL Cleveland Monsters Defense, rejoin the Columbus Blue Jackets.  In addition to himself we'll also game a Forward, from the AHL affiliate, also.  This will be Carson Meyer.  So, welcome to both of them.  You can read their full stats at my source, which is NHL.com, here<  https://www.nhl.com/bluejackets/news/cbj-recall-d-jake-christiansen-and-add-f-carson-meyer-on-emergency-recall/c-332600262

No reason has been give as to why both were called up.  Last night I saw nothing which concerned me as I watched/listened to the game.  Further, Pascal Vincent, the Assistant Coach who has stepped in as Head Coach while Brad Larson recovers in NHL Covid Protocol, had no concerns last night in his postgame news conference.  So, and this is just my theory not fact, but I look to those players who are already out. Zach Werenski is a Defenseman.  He is currently listed Day-To-Day on the Injury Reserve Roster.  He did take a helmet to the face/jaw though last Saturday, against the Wild.  So, maybe he won't be back as soon as most of us hoped?  Sad, but a likely theory.  

In addition we also have a key Offensive player out.  Arguably, maybe the most important, Captain Boone Jenner.  The season is winding down and he's been on the Injury Reserve List as well.  However, he is Week-To-Week with a back injury he apparently fought most of this NHL Season.  In my mind, unless an injury report comes out tomorrow regarding another player, which I truly hope not, maybe this indicates he'll rest for the remainder of the season.  After all, it isn't worth him coming back and risking anything, as the team will not see the post season.  Again, this is a theory, not fact.  However, it seems odd to me that both Jenner and Werenski are out and this action was taken, after no visible injuries to players, last night. In these instances I always hope to be wrong, but this would make unfortunate sense, to me.  We'll just have to wait and see what tomorrow will bring, news wise, ahead of a Bruins vs. Blue Jackets showdown in Nationwide Arena.

Zach Werenski Adds Another Achievement to His 2024-25 NHL Season

Normally, I have to share articles by the NHL because I'm usually working when this kind of news is announced, but today, I'm not! Zach Werenski is proving to doubters that this NHL Season will go down as one of the best in his career. Today, we learned of another achievement he's added to the long list of record-breaking moments, point streaks, and team-leading assists and total points. Zach Werenski, across the league, has added the Third Star of January to this list now, too. Aside from his spectacular goal last night to clench the win for his team in overtime at the Utah Hockey Club, the man has poured on the points in the first month of 2025. His total for just 31 days was six goals and eleven assists for a grand total of seventeen points. He accomplished this over the span of just fourteen games. New York Islanders @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 4/17/25

And so it comes to an end: The season that started as a nightmare ends in a way we could've only dreamed. Yes, I know we're not chasing a Stanley Cup in 2025, but for how this season began...this season shouldn't have ended like this. I'm optimistic, even in light of injuries, pain, and loss, and even I wouldn't have thought that we'd battle the Montreal Canadians for the final Eastern Wild Card spot at game 82 this season. I sure as hell wouldn't have predicted some of the numbers our Blue Jackets put up this season either. I am so proud of this team and where they're going.
