Announcements Before Tonight's Blue Jackets @ Bruins Game- 4/2/22

First and foremost, can anyone believe it's already April?  I'm a few weeks from being bored out of my mind and wishing for September with all of you.  

First we do have a lineup switch out.  Carlsson will come out of the lineup for tonight against Boston.  In his place the team has added Bayreuther.   This is the only switch out I've seen so far today.  This change does make sense though.  With Werenski still out it is a good idea to rest a defenseman each game, I think.  Most of these young players aren't used to making up the half game Werenski normally plays.  We've heard the pickle juice stories on the bench, which helps players not cramp up, so they can continue the game.  Keep this in mind tonight as you watch the game, the Defense is missing their leader, just as the Offense has been missing theirs, Jenner, for a couple weeks now.  Considering, this line and the team as a whole hasn't done bad, honestly.  

The Goaltender hasn't changed, it will be Merzlikins again, tonight.  I've seen many ask why and Head Coach Brad Larson has reflected on such as well.  Merzlikins, with his long contract extension in August 2021 is THE GUY.  This team has high hopes for the future and that includes Merzlikins adjusting to playing nearly every game.  Again, this makes perfect sense.  It's also an advantage for him to get into this groove before next season.  Real world practice if you will.  The Playoff hopes have been sadly dashed at this point, I don't see it happening in any way now.  That doesn't mean this team can't learn from the remainder of the season, and learn they must for next season to exceed this one.  Now, this season has been good, better than expected, but next I see big things happening.  I do.  

Also, be sure to tune into Bally Sports a bit early tonight.  They might show clips of former Blue Jackets Captain, Nick Foligno's, big moment.  He played his 1,000th NHL game a few weeks ago.  However, tonight will be his Boston Bruins honor for the incredible accomplishment.  Personally, I thank them for waiting so his former team and fans could watch.  Classy indeed.  Pregame is 6:30 PM EST, while puck drop will follow at 7:00.

Zach Werenski Adds Another Achievement to His 2024-25 NHL Season

Normally, I have to share articles by the NHL because I'm usually working when this kind of news is announced, but today, I'm not! Zach Werenski is proving to doubters that this NHL Season will go down as one of the best in his career. Today, we learned of another achievement he's added to the long list of record-breaking moments, point streaks, and team-leading assists and total points. Zach Werenski, across the league, has added the Third Star of January to this list now, too. Aside from his spectacular goal last night to clench the win for his team in overtime at the Utah Hockey Club, the man has poured on the points in the first month of 2025. His total for just 31 days was six goals and eleven assists for a grand total of seventeen points. He accomplished this over the span of just fourteen games. New York Islanders @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 4/17/25

And so it comes to an end: The season that started as a nightmare ends in a way we could've only dreamed. Yes, I know we're not chasing a Stanley Cup in 2025, but for how this season began...this season shouldn't have ended like this. I'm optimistic, even in light of injuries, pain, and loss, and even I wouldn't have thought that we'd battle the Montreal Canadians for the final Eastern Wild Card spot at game 82 this season. I sure as hell wouldn't have predicted some of the numbers our Blue Jackets put up this season either. I am so proud of this team and where they're going.
