Boone Jenner Update From Skate Space With Jeff Svoboda and Dylan Tryer- 4/20/22

During tonight’s Twitter Skate Space with Jeff Svoboda and Dylan Tryer, I got to ask a question many of you have been asking me: How is Boone Jenner doing? The Blue Jackets Captain last played when the Wild came to Columbus on March 11, 2022. Since, he’s been listed as “Week-to-Week” with a back injury. Nothing more has been said beyond this by the team. However, when talking with Jeff Svoboda a few days ago, about this very topic, some updates were shared.

“Boone Jenner’s coming along, but still week to week”. Was what Dylan Tyrer started out by saying after remarking that a discussion about this topic, had happened with Head Coach Brad Larson recently. Jeff Svoboda backed this up by saying, in part, “my gut feeling and there’s been nothing official about this, but Brad Larson’s answer yesterday about Boone Jenner, was him basically saying Boone Jenner’s done for the year, without saying Boone Jenner’s done for the year.” He went on by saying, “the way he kind of said it was I can’t rule it out for sure, but like do the math, there’s 5 games left. You know, Is it really worth it to us to push Boone Jenner back out there?” An upside is that after stating this Jeff Svoboda did say that “and Boone is doing better they’ve said” . So, for those looking for a bright spot toward the end of our season, in regard to those players with longer injuries, this is a good sign. He also mentioned to keep in mind that any back injury can be a “lingering” type. This means he’ll have to work though this for the rest for the rest of his career, I think, whatever this injury was. Again, I can’t stress enough that this injury is his family, his teammates and his business. This means as many of you know, I will not speculate on what this injury is. All I will do is simply wish him the very best, as always.

A bonus bright side, at the end of his response to my question, Jeff Svoboda stated that Boone Jenner “he’s not in any screech debilitated or anything along those lines. In fact, he went out with us to L. A. to keep the treatment going.” So, it’s a process but in all of this I hear one thing, progress. Of course, that’s what we all want to see, no matter what role he had on this team. Again, keep in mind none of this is official word, but simply what Jeff said Brad Larson told him in a conversation, recently. With that being said I’m very happy you all asked me the same question I’d been wondering myself. I also thank Jeff Svoboda and Dylan Tryer for having these spaces on Twitter so I can ask them these questions!

This season Boone Jenner appeared in 59 total games this season. He had 44 points total, consisting of 23 goals and 21 assists. Even if we don’t see him in the last 5 games of this 2021-22 NHL Season, these numbers are impressive and a great presentation by a first-year NHL Captain.

Continuing to wish you well, Captain Boone Jenner.
