First Media Day For Kent Johnson- 4/11/22
Alright 5th Line, as promised I did a post for the first practice of Kent Johnson. The team let Johnson talk a long time and he shared a lot of great things So, Blankenburg's first Media Day will be in another post. Now, it's time to dive into their first media day as Columbus Blue Jackets! Let's do this.
First up at 49:33 into the live broadcast video was Kent Johnson. Also, I'm watching this on the Columbus Blue Jackets Official Twitter Page. It happened 4ish hours ago, so we're looking around 1:00 PM today, April 11, 2022. I say all of this so you know what I'm sourcing this information from, as to give credit to the video for my information. Moving on to the interview itself. He "felt better as practice went on" Johnson mentioned first regarding a question about how it felt to be "on NHL ice". I believe this question came from our own Jeff Svoboda, too. It sounded like him anyway!
In another question, from a voice I'm unsure of origin, he mentioned how confidence was important. This was in regard to a question regarding his experiences this season, like the Olympics, college hockey season and the recent NCAA College Hockey Playoffs. As many of you know, both Blankenburg and his reason for signing with 9 games remaining in the NHL season was due to their 3-2 loss to Denver, in the Frozen 4, last week. Denver went on to win the NCAA Men's Hockey Championship against Minnesota St. The final score was 5-1, Denver.
In regard to nerves for being at this level of pro hockey he replied, in part: "maybe a little nervous, but after that yeah, it was all good." Also, in a separate question he stated he was "really excited" to be playing.
Regarding his placement in the lineup, he feels "great about it", in regard to being on the wing. He's also "not 100% sure yet" regarding playing against the Canadians Wednesday, April 13th.
Regarding Blankenburg, "so excited" and "hoping he'd really pick Columbus". It's also "really nice to go through this with him". He stated in answering a follow up question about Blankenburg.
"Guys seem really nice and welcoming". He stated regarding joining the Columbus Blue Jackets.
When asked about the Columbus fan base, that's us, he said: "You want to play in a market where they love hockey. I know that's what it's ah, like here in Columbus."
The question regarding the fan base was his final question in the interview this afternoon. All good things in my mind. I really do hope we see him play Wednesday, however his debut in Columbus needs to be centered around when he's ready to play, no doubt. He's here and the end result is we'll see him play eventually, this season! Again, we may not make the playoffs this year, which was expected. With that being said, the excitement of the season remaining is still vibrant with the additions of Johnson and Blankenburg, no doubt!
Welcome, Kent Johnson!
