Franchise Record Of 258 Goals This 2021-22 NHL Season Will Make You Not Care About The 5-3 Penguins Win Over Blue Jackets, I Promise! 4/29/22

Alright 5th Line, let's do this one more time for the 2021-22 Columbus Blue Jackets Regular Season!

Hold onto your red, white and blue hearts, this game has a rough start!  Then again, when does this not happen in Pittsburgh, against the Blue Jackets rival, Penguins?  After 3 unanswered goal by the Penguins (Malkin at 5:31, Rodrigues at 5:31, then Pettersson at 6:26) the night off for the Columbus Blue Jackets starting goaltender, Elvis Merzlikins, would come to an abrupt end.  He'd take over for Berube, who started the game.  Once Merzlikins got into the game, the goal hemorrhaging would stop for the Blue Jackets.  However, the Blue Jackets wouldn't find the net.  End result was a 3-0 Penguins lead after 20 minutes of play.

Period 2 would have a great amount of play for the Blue Jackets.  The Defense would come alive, as well as the Offense.  As for Merzlikins, even with him meant to take the night off, he seemed to wake up ready.  At 10:25, Danforth would score his 10th goal of the season.  Carlson would gain his 7th assist on the season.  At 16:30, Letang would score for the Penguins, making it 4-1 Penguins.  Then, at 18:54, Boyle would score another for the Penguins.  This would make the score 5-1 Penguins, after 40 minutes of hockey.

In the final 20 minutes of their 2021-22 NHL Season, the Columbus Blue Jackets would make the Penguins sweat.  At 6:58, number 28 would score his 28th goal of the season!  Well done Bjorkstrand, this solidified you as the top goal scorer of the 2021-22 Columbus Blue Jackets NHL Season!  Nyquist would gain the 1st assist on this goal.  His 35th this season would take him up to a 400 point NHL total.  Voracek, on the other skate, would take the second assist, giving him 55 on the season.  Also, this was a monumental goal for this team.  It exceed the Columbus Blue Jackets total goals on any NHL Season in history.  Which would make the next, from Nyquist, icing on this seasons cake!  Voracek would gain another assist on this goal, number 56 this season, would mark a milestone for him.  His total NHL points are now 800.  Bean would gain his 18th assist this season.  Now, the game would end with a 5-3 win for the Penguins.  With the 258 new goal record for a season and all the other milestones tonight, I hope to care about that for the 5 seconds I did 5th Line!  They can have the game win, our franchise won more tonight and this season.

Alright, forgive me a moment as I get a bit sentimental here.  This team started one man down forever, as we lost Goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks on July 4th, in a tragic firework accident.  I'm wearing my "Kivi Forever" shirt as I write this, right now.  I won't speak for "Kivi", but I'm very proud of this team.  No, we're not going to the playoffs.  I'm not being rude here, but so what?  This group set so many milestones.  So many players hit new 100's regarding goals, assists and points.  We saw 10 NHL players in their first games, many of them also scored their first goals, if not goals than assists.  258 goals, the most for this franchise in an NHL Season.  We were beat by some of the best NHL teams, like the Hurricanes, Panthers and Lightning...but we also beat them too!  The Columbus Blue Jackets retired their very first jersey, that of number 61, Mr. Rick Nash..  We saw players return from injury, get injured again and then come back better than ever!  This team battled Covid and other illnesses, too.  The Columbus Blue Jackets had the only player drafted in the 2021 NHL Draft, to play the full 2021-22 NHL Season, that of number 34, Mr. Cole Sillinger.

I'll do a wrap up, likely tomorrow unless news breaks tomorrow of something monumental, but I'm very sure there is more.  This about that all, then know there is more.  This season wasn't a failure, no, it was a triumph.  A young team, a first year Head Coach, a first-year starting goaltender.  The only reason I'm not giving into my emotions right now, is because I know I have to post this.  I'm not kidding, I love this team and although it's hard to imagine this team will not be the exact same next year, it's been amazing to have been a small part of it.  I thank each and every one of you, my readers and even those who are critical of me at times.  You make me a better writer and reporter.  This isn't the end of a season, but the start of an off season.  I'll still be posting, be it highlights and profiles for players this season, trades, contracts, the draft and so on.  Don't worry 5th Line, we'll talk very soon.

Much thanks and love to you all.

For one more time this 2021-22 NHL Season...

2)  " With an assist on the Bjorkstrand goal, Gus Nyquist has notched his 400th NHL point.

Jakub Voracek also gets his 55th assist of the year and 799th NHL point. Ties Artemi Panarin for second all-time in assists in a season for #CBJ."

3) "FINAL: Pittsburgh 5, #CBJ 3. Jackets battled back pretty good after the early 3-0 hole, but it's a season-ending loss against the Pens.
The final record is 37-38-7. Thanks all, for everything, this season.
