Post Season Wrap Up- Oliver Bjorkstrand 5/1/22

To open the 2021-22 Columbus Blue Jackets Season, Oliver Bjorkstrand was presented with a huge honor.  At the age of 26, he was given an "A" on his Blue Jackets Jersey.  This labeled him as one of 3 new Alternate Captains, who would assist Zach Werenski and Gus Nyquist in the role.  One he would step into with impressive outcome, not just throughout the season, but especially when Boone Jenner's back injury took him out for the final 21 games of the regular 82 game NHL Season.  How?  Here are the numbers to prove this, 5th Line.  

Out of the total 82 games this 2021-22 Columbus Blue Jackets NHL Season, Oliver Bjorkstrand appeared in 80.  He scored the most goals of the season too, with 28 total.  28 goals for number 28, you have to appreciate that 5th Line.  Further, the final goal, against the Penguins in Pittsburgh, set a new team record for goals in a season.  This after Justin Danforth tied the record earlier in the same game.  In addition, this was a new goal total for him, as he exceeded his previous high of 23 goals in the 2018-29 NHL Season.  He also had 29 assists this season, giving him a point total of 57.  7 of those 57 points came in the last 4 games this season against the Oilers, Lightning and Penguins, all playoff bound teams.  To wrap up his points this season, he didn't just score his 100th goal, but also his 100th assist this season, too.  Way to go, Bjorkstrand!  

He has several more seasons to look forward to with the Columbus Blue Jackets.  If not traded, personally I can't see why they would, he'll be here though at least the 2025-26 Columbus Blue Jackets Season.  I can't wait to see what he does with this team next season.

Zach Werenski Adds Another Achievement to His 2024-25 NHL Season

Normally, I have to share articles by the NHL because I'm usually working when this kind of news is announced, but today, I'm not! Zach Werenski is proving to doubters that this NHL Season will go down as one of the best in his career. Today, we learned of another achievement he's added to the long list of record-breaking moments, point streaks, and team-leading assists and total points. Zach Werenski, across the league, has added the Third Star of January to this list now, too. Aside from his spectacular goal last night to clench the win for his team in overtime at the Utah Hockey Club, the man has poured on the points in the first month of 2025. His total for just 31 days was six goals and eleven assists for a grand total of seventeen points. He accomplished this over the span of just fourteen games. New York Islanders @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 4/17/25

And so it comes to an end: The season that started as a nightmare ends in a way we could've only dreamed. Yes, I know we're not chasing a Stanley Cup in 2025, but for how this season began...this season shouldn't have ended like this. I'm optimistic, even in light of injuries, pain, and loss, and even I wouldn't have thought that we'd battle the Montreal Canadians for the final Eastern Wild Card spot at game 82 this season.
