Blue Jackets Start 2022 Traverse City Tournament With A Huge Win! 9/15/22

The expectations were high today as Captain Kent Johnson led a group of young players into Game 1 of the 2022 Traverse City Tournament.  I can safely say they exceeded those expectations, this afternoon, in every way.  The scoring would open with a goal from Jordan Dumais, less than 2 minutes into the game.  He'd then follow that goal up with another, making it 2-0 Blue Jackets.  This early lead would expand again, before Period 1 would close, with a goal from Samuel Kinazko.  3-0 after Period 1.

Period 2 would prove to be just as eventful for the Blue Jackets.  Liam Hawel would put up a 4th goal, then quickly after Captain Kent Johnson would add on a 5th.  The St. Louis Blues would finally get a puck past Jet Graves, making it 5-1 Blue Jackets.  However, Luca Del Bel Belluz would add his first goal in Traverse City, giving the Blue Jackets another 3-goal period.

In the final period, the Blue Jackets would have one final goal in them.  This would come from Kirill Marchenko.  The 7-1 lead would hold and become the final.  It was a huge win for the Columbus Blue Jackets, especially when you consider this win happened against a young prospect team like the St. Louis Blues.  Jet Graves also had a great game, stopping 21 of 22 shots on his net.  Well done to the whole Blue Jackets, Traverse City Prospect Team!

Tomorrow the Columbus Blue Jackets will take on the hosts of the tournament, the Detroit Red Wings.  This team has needed to improve and when drafting they knew it.  So, the excitement from today will definitely carry on to tomorrow.  Puck drop is set for 3:00 PM again and we'll have Bob McElligott and Dylan Tryer making the calls, along with the announcers for the Red Wings.  You can also catch @JacketsInsider Jeff Svoboda on Twitter, or myself on Facebook and Twitter, providing live updates.  To watch you can go to bluejackets.com, the NHL App or the Columbus Blue Jackets Official YouTube Account.

We'll talk tomorrow, 5th Line!

Go CBJ!
