Columbus Blue Jackets @ New York Rangers: 2022-23 Game 7 Recap

If playing the Pitsburgh Penguins at home is a tall order, playing the New York Rangers in Madison Square Garden is a challenge.  I said this last night after that 3-1 Blue Jackets Lead turned into a stunning 6-3 Blue Jackets home loss.  Something else I said last night too was how going into this arena and game, with a chip on their shoulders could pay off.  With Daniil Tarasov looking for his first starting-win of the season and Liam Foudy taking to the NHL ice for the first time this season (in for a newly injured Justin Danforth), post season-ending shoulder sugary earlier this year, the table was set for an interesting match.  So, let's recap 5th Line!

Period 1 was ruled by the Blue Jackets, just as it was last night.  The Blue Jackets would score goal one, by way of Zach Werenski, who nets his second of the young season.  This would come at 1754, the only assist being credited to Liam Foudy.  How's that for a welcome back?  Period 1 you get an assist.  This would also be the only goal of Period 1, resulting in 1-0 Blue Jackets lead in MSG.

Period 2 would see the Blue Jackets not back down, a great turn around after last night's second period.  Andrew Peeke would put the Blue Jackets up 2-0, with his first goal of the 2022-23 NHL Season!  This would be a quick goal too, coming just 1:42 of this period.  Jack Roslovic would gain his third assist of this season, while Jakub Voracek would gain his fourth.  Yegor Chinakhov, at 9:00 on the nose, would net his first goal of the 2022-23 NHL Season!  Liam Foudy would gain his second assist on the season, in this game, while Jake Bean would gain his first assist of the season.  This would take the Blue Jackets to a 3-0 lead.  However, the Rangers would get a 4 on 5 and then a 3 on 5 due to near back-to-back Blue Jacket Penalties.   Former Blue Jacket and "Bread Man" Artemi Panarin would score for the Rangers.  The Blue Jackets would kill off the 4 on 5 after this score, however.  3-1 would be the score after Period 2.

Then Period 3 would come...and the Blue Jackets would continue to push!  They didn't lament for a minute, keeping these New York Rangers on the tip of their skates.  They did this without Nick Blankenburg, who had a hard collision with a Ranger in Period 1 and returned for Period 2, just to leave again.  Can't say the guy isn't full of grin and sportsman ship, that's for sure.  14:13 would bring another Blue Jackets goal, this time from Eric Robinson, his first of the 2022-23 NHL Season.  Erik Gudbranson gains his third Blue Jackets assist, while Seank Kuraly gains his first on the season.  Then, Mr. Kent Johnson would net his second in as many games, at 14:57!  Jakub Voracek would gain assist five, while Jack Roslovic gets his fourth.  Your final from New York's Madison Square Garden:  Blue Jackets 5, New York Rangers 1!  Saver that one 5th Line!

With 30 saves on 31 shots, Daniil Tarasov wins his first start of the season and also his first in the NHL.  What an accomplishment to do that for the first time there!  Wow, so proud of him.  Beyond this look at those sweet, sweet numbers 5th Line.  First game for Liam Foudy and he had two assists.  Goal 1 this season for Andrew Peeke.  Yegor Chinakhov with his first goal of the season.  First assist for Jake Bean on the season.  Goal 1 for Eric Robinson this season.  First assist on the season for Sean Kuraly.  Kent Johnson has two, back-to-back goals in his last two games!  What...A...Night!

With his first win in the NHL, First Star had to go to Daniil Tarasov.  Second Start went to Liam Foudy with two assists on the night.  Third Star of the game then went to Zach Werenski, who started off the Blue Jackets scoring avalanche!

For all those who were complaining and debating on who to trade and who to fire last night, I hope you all see how fast a team can turn around.  We're the 5th Line and if you call yourself a part of such, stand by your team.  Things may be low at times but seeing this team triumph, after those lows, makes them all the sweeter to overcome.  Well done Blue Jackets, well done.

I'm going to say it again; we beat the New York Rangers IN New York!

Game 8 of this season will be Tuesday, October 25th at home.  The Arizona Coyotes will travel here to play us, puck drop is set for 7:00 PM.  Any updates to come I'll post on my social media pages, if they are monumental enough (like a Blankenburg update) I'll post on this blog as well.

GO CBJ!
