Detroit Red Wings @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2022-23 NHL Season Game 16 Recap

A credit to the Columbus Blue Jackets in this game, before we get too serious, is that the team held the Detroit Red Wings to just 1 goal in Period 1.  At 9:58 this first period, D. Larkin would score for the Red Wings, giving his team a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

The second would start out with a cannon bang, as Emil Bemstrom would prove he came up ready to play from the AHL, after many Blue Jacket starters fell to injury.  His goal would come at just 0:43 into this second period of play.  This would be his second goal of the season, while Captain Boone Jenner would grab his sixth assist of the season and Johnny Gaudreau would capture his ninth of the season.  After this spark however, the Blue Jackets would lose control of thee game to the Red Wings.  F. Hronek would score at 6:35. B. Chiarot would score at 10:45.  Then lastly, F. Hronek would score at 17:02.  This would put the Red Wings up 4-1 after 40 minutes.

Third Period would come with more goals for the opposition.  D. Kubalik would score at 5:21. Then, at 9:04, T. Bertuzzi would tack on another goal.  This would bring the Red Wings to a 6-1 lead.  The home team (Blue Jackets) had a few good chances at scoring, but the Red Wings Goaltender was locked in.  Honest, we were outplayed by a better team tonight, it's that simple this evening.  The final score was that 6-1, Red Wings win.  Also, I'm less surprised by this outcome knowing that the Red Wings came into tonight off a loss.  They wanted a win, and they got it.  The bonus here is that the Blue Jackets will pop right back onto the ice tomorrow night, at home in Nationwide Arena, against the Florida Panthers.  This game will begin at 6:00 PM, make a note because that's not the normal start time here at home.  We also know that with this back-to-back, Joonas Korpisalo will get a deserved break from net, as he'll backup Daniil Tarasov tomorrow evening.  If there are any other updates between now and then, I'll be sure to let you know on my social media pages or on my blog, if it's season altering news.  Period one is so important to get the jump on the opposing team and hopefully, the Blue Jackets will bounce back from tonight quickly, tomorrow evening.

A closing note, as I'm wrapping this up, I'm listening to the post-game interviews on the radio broadcast.  No player who's spoken is happy about how tonight went, so before you judge ttoo, know they're already doing so plenty.

Go CBJ!
