New York Islanders @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2022-23 NHL Season Game 19 Recap

For the Columbus Blue Jackets being 7-11-1 and the New York Islanders being 13-8-0, tonight's game was a very intriguing competition between these two teams.  Period 1 would see just a hand full of shots on goal, while only 1 shot would become a goal.  This goal would go to the Islanders, by way of O. Wahlstrom at 17:26.  The score after one full period of play would be a humble 1-0 Islanders lead.

Perido 2 would result in a second goal for the Islanders, this time from J. Pageau at 7:51.  The Islanders would enjoy a 2-0 lead, but not for long 5th Line!  First, Yegor Chinakhov would net his fourth goal of the 2022-23 NHL Season, coming at 14:05.  Assists on this goal would go to Johnny Gaudreau, his twelfth of this season and Kent Johnson, his sixth of this season.  Then, in the blink of an eye, it would be Kent Johnson's turn to score a goal!  At 14:38, Johnson's fifth goal of the season would come.  Marcus Bjork would gain his third assist on his early NHL Season, while Johnny Gaudreau would add his second assist of the night and his thirteenth (for number 13) of the season.  If the two goals just seconds apart weren't enough to make you happy 5th Line, both were also Power Play Goals!  2-2 tie after this period would conclude, as the Blue Jackets rally all the way back to make this a strong showing and game.

The 2-2 tie would hold until 6:10 when B. Nelson would score, unassisted, for the Islanders.  This would take the Islanders to a 3-2, one-goal lead.  With less than two minutes left in the game, it would appear as if Johnny Gaudreau scored, he was sure of it but unfortunately, a goal would not result.  The Islanders 3-2 lead would hold, and it would be a crushing loss, as the Blue Jackets had every chance to win this after tying the game up at 2-2 in Period 2.  But alas, it was not meant to be.

Again, although the loss is annoying, a 3-2 loss when put up against the second ranked team in our division isn't bad, especially when you consider we're ranked eighth and last.  It wasn't a bad showing tonight, but they could've had this one and I know, they know it.  Sadly, this loss will get to brew a bit in their minds filter, as tomorrow night's game against the Nashville Predators was Postponed today.  A watermain break in their arena is the cause and the game is set to be played at a later date, which I'll keep you posted on 5th Line.  This means the next game of the season will be November 28th, at 7:00 PM, against the Vegas Golden Knights, in Nationwide Arena.

To soften the blow of tonight's loss, Star Two of the game was Kent Johnson.  He had a goal and an assist, making him 1-1-2 on the night.  He had a part in both goals tonight for the Columbus Blue Jackets and it's great to see the 1st Round Draft Pick in 2021 accomplishing so much this season.

Korpisalo had 21 saves on 24 Islanders shots.

If there are any updates, I'll share them to my social media pages or write a post, if I'm not working.  Until then, enjoy the rest of your Thanksgiving weekend and we'll see what the Blue Jackets can make happen on Monday evening!

Go CBJ!
