Philidelphia Flyers @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2022-23 NHL Season Game 15 Recap

It would be another night of taking the good with the bad.  The good: goals galore.  The bad: Injuries continue to mount.  I won't keep you hanging on either account, so let's recap 5th Line.

Period 1 would be all Blue Jackets.  Only 1 goal would be scored, and it would be from Sean Kuraly, who returned from injury tonight in a big way!  His goal third goal this season would come at 12:36 and assists would go to Vladislav Gavrikhov, number two for him this season and Eric Robinson, his third this season.  As I said, this was the only goal in all of Period 1, meaning a 1-0 Blue Jackets lead at this point.

Period 2 would be a comeback for the Flyers, but the Blue Jackets wouldn't back down either.  At 5:36, Boone Jenner would find the net for his fifth time this season.  Assists on this goal would go to Johnny Gaudreau, marking Johnny "Hockey's" seventh of the season and Kent Johnson, grabbing his fourth this season.  However, K. Hayes at 8:54 and N. Cates at 12:16 would knot this game at 2-2, before Period 2 would come to a close.

Have no fear 5th Line, because Boone Jenner is here!  Yes, the Blue Jackets Captain would net his second if the night, just 3:22 into Period 3.  No assists on this goal.  Then, in a bang-bang situation, Eric Robinson would score just 2 seconds later at 3:35.  Assists on this goal go to Mathieu Oliver, his second on the season and the other to Marcus Bjork, his second of this season also.  (Impressive since his NHL season started last game!)  Unfortunately, this 4-2 lead wouldn't last long.  At 4:58 N. Seeker would score for the Flyers, and this goal would be followed up with one from his teammate T. Konecny at 9:14, resulting in another tie.  The game would hang at 4-4 for the remainder of Period 3, which means two things, we got a point and its Overtime!

Unlike the last Overtime the Blue Jackets faced, this one would end in our favor!  Thanks to a goal from Vladislav Gavrikhov, at 2:38, his second net of the season would put this game to rest!  Yegor Chinakhov picks up his sixth assist on the season, while Cole Sillinger would add a third assist to his own.  What a great way to end the Columbus Blue Jackets Hockey Fights Cancer Game!  5-4 Blue Jackets win!

Now remember, I said at the top of this post that with the good tonight, also came the bad.  I also said that bad was injury related.  As has been the case with most games this season, it seems that when we win we lose players.  Tonight, was no acceptation, as we lost Defenseman Jake Bean first.  He appeared to go hard into the boards in period two, which resulted in him going back to the locker room, never to be seen again.  He was ruled out, with an upper body injury, early into Period 3.  The second and finial injury of this game, which was just as traumatic, was Elvis Merzlikins.  It's unclear what exactly happened, but after a save in Period two, he was helped off the ice by Vladislav Gavrikhov.  As this happened his left leg never touched the ice, meaning the injury is likely in that area.  However, this was not confirmed, and he was never officially ruled out, but at the same time he never returned. Joonas Korpisalo took over and finished the game and aided the team in finishing Overtime with a win.  When updates come out regarding these two players injuries, I'll post on my social media pages or the blog if the news is game changing, but let's all hope it isn't!

Captain Boone Jenner would snag Star 1 of tonight's game, while Star 2 on the night would go to the Overtime goal scorer Vladislav Gavrikhov.  Star 3 would go to Flyers Travis Konecny.

Game 16 will take place November 17th at 7:00 PM, in Nationwide Arena.  The Montreal Canadians will come across the border for a faceoff that's sure to be fun.  The Blue Jackets, less several players, are starting to find their grove.  We're now 5-9-1, while the Canadians are 8-7-1.  Based on the records this is a near equal matchup that, I for one, can't wait to see!

Until then 5th Line,

GO CBJ!
