Vegas Golden Knights @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2022-23 NHL Season Game 20 Recap

After two Vegas Golden Knight goals in Period 1 (the first from W. Karlsson at 15:59 and the second from W. Carrier at 16:55) you'd have likely been doubtful of this game going good for the home Columbus Blue Jackets.  To that I say, never underestimate this team, even against a 16-6-1 team that's top of the Western Division.  Why do I say this?  Just wait.

In Period 2 the Golden Knights wouldn't score at all, but the Blue Jackets would!  At 13:50 Johnny Gaudreau would net his eight goal of the 2022-23 NHL Season!  Assists on this goal would go to Gus Nyquist, his sixth of the year and Vladislav Gavrikhov, his third of the season.  2-1 after Period 2.  The comeback was started, but not finished...yet.

Period 3 would see Captain Boone Jenner's nineth goal of this season at 12:11!  Gus Nyquist would have his second primary assist on this goal tonight, while Johnny Gaudreau would continue to rack up his points this season, grabbing his fourteenth this season.  Gaudreau is up to 21 points this season already.  No other goals would come, as Daniil Tarasov would hold for a second Period in a row.  2-2 tie and this would go to Overtime and then a Shootout, because the Overtime still wouldn't be enough to decide this game!

Gus Nyquist would shoot first and score, but in Round Two of this Shootout J. Marchessault would also score, evening out the Shootout.  This Shootout took a Round Seven Shootout before we finally had a winner, unfortunately, it would be the Blue Jackets.  P. Cotter would score for the Vegas Golden Knights and they would take this game with a 3-2, Shootout win.

As I said in the intro, we were playing the Western Division leaders tonight.  Taking them to a Round Seven Shootout is no small accomplishment, and we did still gain a point for forcing the Overtime turned Shootout.  Daniil Tarasov and this whole Blue Jackets team have nothing to hang their heads about after this game.  Tarasov saved 34 of the 36 shots attempts on his Blue Jackets net in regulation, and I can't understand how he didn't get a Star in tonight's game.  However, Johnny Gaudreau would get the Second Star tonight, with his 1-1-2 night.  Gus Nyquist also had a 2-point night, 0-2-2.  As I said, this wasn't a win, but we got a point and one which this team earned, no question.  This team can build on this and will need to as they head on the road again.

Game 21 of this Blue Jackets 2022-23 NHL Season will be Friday night as they travel to Canada, facing off with the Winnipeg Jets at 8:00 PM.  If there are any updates between now and then, I'll let you know 5th Line!

Go CBJ!
