Columbus Blue Jackets @ Philidelphia Flyers: 2022-23 NHL Season Game 31 Recap

Period 1 tonight in Philidelphia would result in just one goal, and in favor of the home team, coming from T. Konecny at 13:48.  The score after twenty minutes would be a manageable 1-0 Flyers lead.

Period 2 would be a far more competitive and fun game to watch and/or listen to.  At 5:58, Kirill Marchenko would get the Blue Jackets on the board and tie the game up at 1-1.  Jake Christensen would gain his second assist on this goal for the season, while Eric Robinson would gain his seventh.  This goal would be quickly followed by another from Kent Johnson.  At 8:41, his eight of this season would be scored and put the Blue Jackets up 2-1.  Johnny Gaudreau would tack on yet another assist, taking him up to twenty-four already, while Andrew Peeke would tack on number three of his season.  Unfortunately, the Flyers would see our 2-1 lead and raise it.  With a goal from M. Frost at 10:04 and another from O. Tippett at 14:18, the Flyers would again retake the lead 3-2.

Early in the third period, T. Konecny would score at 2:45, giving his team their most significant lead over us all night, 4-2.  Daniil Tarasov would do a fantastic job keeping his team in this game during this period.  As for the team before him, they would work hard to create scoring opportunities and keep the puck out of their zone.  Finally, at 11:11, the Blue Jackets not holding back would pay off!  Defenseman Andrew Peeke would score his third goal of the season.  Assists on this goal would go to Kirill Marchenko would gain his first NHL Assist ever, while Gus Nyquist would gain number nine on the season.  4-3 Flyers lead at this point with just a goal lead and roughly a half period to play.  The Blue Jackets would try to match the four goals of the Flyers since they only needed one more to do so, but with an empty net goal from O. Tippett, they would take a 5-3 lead and finally beat us this season.  This makes the Flyers series a 2-1 game lead in favor of the Blue Jackets.  The final game in this series will be in 2023 and Philidelphia.

The game tonight wasn't perfect, but it was one of the better showings for this team of the 2022-23 NHL Season.  The offense and defense continued to battle till the very end, and Tarasov had a good night in the net, as he stopped the Flyers on 35 of their 39 shots on our net.  For comparison, we had 33 shots on their net.

Game 32 of this season will be played on December 23erd, this upcoming Friday, in Chicago.  We'll see what the Blue Jackets can do and if they pick up any players from the IR or illness list by then.  (Personally, I doubt it, but we need to be optimistic about something, right?)  Speaking of the IR list, at this point, nothing about Yegor Chinakhov's injury has been released; we only know an MRI took place and that it isn't his foot, but apparently his ankle.   I'll keep you posted about any updates for him or any of our other Blue Jackets.

Until then, Go CBJ!
