Columbus Blue Jackets @ Tamap Bay Lightning: 2022-23 NHL Season Game 28 Recap

Period 1 of this game would yield just one goal, in favor of the Lightning.  At 3:57 P. Bellemare would score goal one for his season and team.  The Blue Jackets would fight back, but just not find the net this period.  The end result was a 1-0 Lightning lead at home.  In this period the Tarasov save where he jumped the length of the net, then caught the puck in his hand...truly if you didn't see this save, go look it up.  It might be the best save of his NHL career thus far, I know it's a loaded compliment but just trust me, it was.

Period 2 would, again, yield just a single goal.  This time, however, that goal would belong to your Blue Jackets' 5th Line!  At 3:10 Kirill Marchenko would score goal number two of his first NHL Season.  This gives him a goal in his last two games as well, very exciting.  The Primary assist would be Cole Sillinger's fourth this season, while the secondary assist would go to Erik Gudbranson, his seventh this season.  With no goals beyond this one, again, the score would now be knotted at a tie, 1-1.

Unfortunately, in Period 3, B. Point would give the Lightning a 2-1 edge at 9:02.  With a goal from B. Hagel at 13:36, the Lightning would then go up 3-1.  At 17:19 B. Hagel would score again, an empty net goal this time, making it 4-1.  Against the three-time Eastern Conference Final Champions, this 4-1 would be tonight's final; a Lightning win.

Those first two periods were very well played, but once the Lightning struck with that second goal, they took control.  The Blue Jackets didn't play badly, it just wasn't enough and against a team of this skill and veteranship, I'm not surprised.  However, their hanging in till halfway through Period 3 was impressive to me. As an upside, those three penalty kills were stunning as the Blue Jackets went 3/3 on those.

Game 29 of this Columbus Blue Jackets Season will be played on Saturday afternoon.  The team will travel to Boston and take on one of the best teams in the NHL, the Bruins.  The game is set for 1:00 PM and I will be working.  If I'm able to do a write-up that night I will, however, I do enjoy using my own analysis, instead of someone else's.  We'll see how it goes, I'm hoping my break will be around Period 2 or 3; fingers crossed!
