Columbus Blue Jackets @ Winnipeg Jets: 2022-23 NHL Season Game 21 Recap

It's electric when the Columbus Blue Jackets travel to Winnipeg with Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic, the two players we gained in the trade for Perre-Luc Dubois in 2021.  Believe it or not, that trade wasn't very long ago, although it seems like Laine and Roslovic have been here forever now, due to their impact on the Blue Jackets Team.  This was very true tonight as Laine returned from his sprained ankle and Roslovic has a highlight moment of his own too.  Lett's recap!

Period 1 would open with a Blue Jackets goal in Winnipeg, coming at 6:48 by Patrik Laine, his third of the year!  Johnny Gaudreau would feed him the puck for this opening goal, gaining his fifteenth assist on the season so far.  Then, at 10:42, Eric Gudbranson would finally get to pick up goal one of his 2022-23 NHL Season with the Blue Jackets.  Assists on this goal would go to Jack Roslovic, his sixth of the season and Kent Johnson, his seventh of the season.  This is how the period would end, 2-0 Blue Jackets lead.

Anyone for an opening period repeat?  Patrik Laine would score his fourth goal on the season and second of this game at 3:19 of Period 2.  With his 300th point in the NHL, Captain Boone Jenner would take the primary assist on this second Laine goal, while the secondary assist would go to Johnny Gaudreau, his sixteenth this season.  Gus Nyquist would then have his scoring chance finish with a goal too, this one coming at 12:21.  Johnny Gaudreau, with his third assist tonight and seventeenth of this season, would feed this opportunity to Nyquist.  The secondary assist would go to Vladislav Gavrikhov, his fourth of this NHL Season.   4-0 Blue Jackets lead, at this point.

Period 3 would see the Blue Jackets do some amazing penalty killing.  Sadly, a rebound would go back to Pierre-Luc Dubois, the former Blue Jacket, and he'd end the dreams of a Shutout for Joonas Korpisalo.  This would take the game to a 4-1 Blue Jackets lead still, however.  Thankfully, Dubois would be the last to score in this game.  The Blue Jackets would go on to win this game 4-1!  The only downside?  Laine came so stinking close to that Hattrick, but it wasn't meant to be...tonight, anyway.  Regardless, this was a win the Blue Jackets needed, not just to boost moral but to carry into their next game against a strong, Detroit Red Wings team.

Korpisalo would end the night stopping 37 of 38 shots on his net, what a night for him.  He would come away with the Third Star tonight.

The Second Start tonight would go to Patrik Laine, who was 2-0-2.  So, clearly, that sprained ankle is A-Okay now!

The First Start tonight would go to Johnny Gaudreau, who had a 0-3-3 night.  For those keeping count, and let's face it...who isn't?  Johnny Gaudreau is currently 8-17-25 on the season in just 22 games.  We'll just end on that drop mic moment 5th Line.

Game 22 of this 2022-23 NHL Season will be on Suday, December 4th, at 6:00 PM.  This game will be home, in Nationwide Arena.  So, if you have tickets to the game, pay attention to that start time being an hour earlier than normal.  The Columbus Blue Jackets will face the visiting Detroit Red Wings, who are currently 11-6-5.  On November 30th, the Red Wings were down to the Buffalo Sabres 4-1, going into Period 3.  The Red Wings came all the way back, tying the game and forcing an Overtime turned Shootout.  The Sabres did win 5-4, however, I'm saying this because the Red Wings are not a team to underestimate this season.  With that being said, they will play tomorrow night and one of the best teams in the league too, the Vegas Golen Knights.  With us traveling back from Canada however, I feel Sunday could be evenly matched and after what the Blue Jackets did tonight, a very interesting game.  Let's hope I'm right!

Go CBJ!

We're now 8-12-2
