Dallas Stars @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2022-23 NHL Season Game 30 Recap

This game started with developments long before the Columbus Blue Jackets and Dallas Stars took the ice.  Earlier today, the team updated us about Boone Jenner.  While on the road, Captain Boone Jenner suffered a fractured thumb.  With Surgery coming in the next few days, he's expected to miss about a month.  This unfortunate situation creates more opportunity for yet another player to step up, in this case, we learned this opportunity on Line 1 would go to Kent Johnson.  This wouldn't be the only surprise about this specific line tonight.  Johnny Gaudreau would skate on the ice tonight, in his new home of Nationwide Arena, with an "A" on his Safelite Jersey.  How's that for a surprise 5th Line?  So, with this changed Line and a player with a new letter set, it was time to play an anticipated game.

Period 1 would end with a 0-0 draw.  Both teams had chances, but neither would take advantage of them.  The main story from this period is yet another Blue Jackets injury because no one is safe at this point.  Yegor Chinakhov would go down early into the game, needing to be helped off after a clear issue with his one foot.  This happened when a Stars player and himself met in a body-on-body crash.  He wouldn't return to the game, and just as the second period got underway, we'd learn, as we all feared, Chinakhov would be out for the entire game.

Period 2 would only yield a single goal, this one coming from the Dallas stars W. Johnston at just 0:55.  The Blue Jackets did get a penalty their way and a chance for a 4-on-5 advantage, which would lead into Period 3. Still, alas, no goal would result from this opportunity.  J. Robertson would score at 18:53, an empty net goal.  It looked to be a shutout, but then Kent Johnson would score a goal at 19:45.  It's his seventh goal this season and huge for it being his first time on that top line, from the puck drop start.  On this lone goal tonight, Jack Roslovic gains his twelfth assist, and Gus Nyquist gains his eighth this season.  This game would end with a 2-1, Stars win.  I know that we're all sick of the word "close" or the "they tried" point, but the Blue Jackets didn't do bad tonight.

The Second Star tonight would go to our Goalie, Daniil Tarasov, who stopped 32 of the Stars 33 shots on his home net.  Not too shabby Tarasov, especially against a top team this NHL season.

Game 31 of this NHL Season will be tomorrow night in Philidelphia, as we travel to take on the Flyers and our former Head Coach John Tortorella.  The puck drop is set for 7:00 PM.  A bit of information I learned from my best friend, during tonight's game, Cam Atkinson is out for likely the remainder of the season with a neck issue that requires surgery.  I wish our former #13 the very best.

Until then 5th Line, Go CBJ!
