L.A Kings @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 2022-23 NHL Season Game 26 Recap

If there is anything better than Blue Jackets hockey, it's hearing the score twice on your way home from work, in the car.  Period 1 would see two goals, and both would be scored by the home, Columbus Blue Jackets team.  The first would come 6:44 and be very special, as we'd watch Kirill Marchenko score his very first NHL Goal!  One assist on this goal and it would go to Kent Johnson, his eight this season.  This would be quickly followed by that second Blue Jackets goal I stated above, this one coming at 9:28 by Boone Jenner.  The Captain now has ten goals this season, so far.  The primary assist on this goal goes to Jack Roslovic, his tenth this season and Johnny Gaudreau gets the secondary assist, his twentieth of this season.   The L.A. Kings wouldn't score this period, leading to that 2-0 advantagge for the Blue Jackets, heading into the second.

Period 2 would see many goals.  A. Kopiter would score to the Kings at 4:42, then his teammate B. Lizotte would score at 8:25.  This would tie the game at 2-2, but have no fear, Patrik Laine is here!  His eight goal this season would come at 10:03.  Jack Roslovic would get his eleventh assist this season, on this goal, in addition to his second assist tonight.  Secondary assist goes to Erik Gudbranson, whose numbers are improving, this being his sixth assist this season.  So, 3-2 Blue Jackets, but then we'd have another Kings goal at 15:02 by J. Anderson-Dolan.  3-3 tie again, but that would be fixed by Jack Roslovic, quickly.  At 18:00 Jack Roslovic would score his second goal of the season, making it 4-3 Blue Jackets.  Eric Robinson gets his sixth assist on this goal for the season, while Vladislav Gavrikhov would gain his sixth assist this season also.  With seconds left, Jack Roslovic would score his third goal of the season, second of the game and this period!  19:31 was the time on this goal and Johnny Gaudreau would gain assist twenty-one on this goal, while Patrik Laine would add number four to his season total.  At this point it would be 5-3, Blue Jackets lead.

Unfortunately, the Kings would not go away quietly.  With a goal from A. Kopitar at 4:52 and another from his teammate A. Kempe at 5:31, the game would again be tied, this time at 5-5.  This tie would hold for the remainder of the game, and my dinner, forcing an Overtime.

In a matter of seconds this game would be over in Overtime however, and in our favor 5th Line!  This goal would be in review for what felt like a century, but in the end the goal would be ruled as good, and the Blue Jackets would win on a Johnny Gaudreau goal!  This goal would come at just 0:40 into this Overtime period and give Gaudreau his tenth goal of the season.  Assists on this goal would go to Patrik Laine, his fifth this season and Vladislav Gavrikhov, his seventh this season.  Your final tonight is a Blue Jackets, 6-5 win over the Kings!

This easily had to be one of the best games this Blue Jackets team has played all season.  The offense scored and when the Kings came back, the Blue Jackets pushed forward and matched them every time.  The Defense protected the net and Elvis Merzlikins, who had some amazing saves.  Yes, 5-goals got through, but six went in their net and with six being greater than five, we win.  In the end, that's all which matters!

The Third Star tonight would go to A. Kopitar for the Kings, but the other two stars tonight would be Blue Jackets.  Second Star would go to Patrik Laine, with his three-point night, one goal and two assists.  That First Star tonight, Jack Roslovic, and no surprise to any of us, I'm sure.  He had a four-point night, two goals and two assists.  His best night of the season by far, congratulations to him.

Our next game, number 26 of this 2022-23 NHL Season is on Tuesday, December 13th.  We will head down to Florida and play that Panthers first, with a puck drop of 7:00 PM.  The Blue Jackets have won their last two games and the Panthers will be another worthy foe, and a fun game to watch for sure!

Go CBJ!
