Carolina Hurricanes @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 1/7/23 (HUGE WIN!)

With Korpisalo in net and Nationwide Arena rocking with over 18,000, it's time to recap a spectacular game 5th Line! Kirill Marchenko is happy to comply if you want a confidence boost in your Columbus Blue Jackets! Now, as many games have been "team losses," this tonight went beyond Marchenko and was, in my mind, the best win this season.

Period 1 would end with a 0-0, hard-fought draw. Period 2 would change all that, however, as Kirill Marchenko scored goal number 6 of his rookie season. This would come at 7:26, and assists on this goal would go to Kent Johnson, number nine this season for him, and Marcus Bjork, his eighth. At 9:02Kirill Marchenkko would score goal number 2 on the night, his seventh of this season. The primary assist on this goal would go to Kent Johnson, number ten this season for him, and Emil Bemstrom, his fifth. This would bring the Blue Jackets to a 2-0 lead, but the Hurricanes would get in a goal from M. Pacioretty at 11:20. Then, at 17:18, B. Skjei would give his Hurricanes their tying goal, 2-2. Then, at 19:56, M. Pacioretty scored his second goal of the game and gave his team their first lead at 3-2.

Period 3 would see one goal, and it would come from the rookie on fire, Kirill Marchenko, giving him three goals tonight and the FIRST HATTRICK of his career and the Blue Jackets 2022-23 NHL Season! This goal would come at 5:23, and the only assist would go to Cole Sillinger, his fifth of the season. This would lead us to a 3-3 tie, and, as I said, this goal for Kirill Marchenko would be the only one this period. So, you know what that means, Overtime!

This five-minute Overtime would go seamlessly, taking us to a Shootout.

1)  Kirill Marchenk: Goal.  B.Burns: Miss.

2)  Patrik Laine:  Goal.  A.Svechnikov:  Goal.

3)  Johnny Gaudreau:  Save.  T. Teravainen:  Goal.

4)  Gus Nyquist: Save. M. Pacioretty:  Save.

5)  Kent Johnson:  Goal. M. Necas:  Miss.

Blue Jackets gain 2 points tonight in an epic home game against one of the best NHL Teams; the final was 4-3! Kirill Marchenko gets his first NHL Hattrick.  Joonas Korpisalo holds the net all game and has 39 saves on 42 Hurricanes shot attempts on our goal. What. A. Night.

Star One:  Kirill Marchenko (I mean, who else could it be, right?)

Star Two:  Joonas Korpisalo (Huge Night in Net.)

Star Three:  Kent Johnson (Two primary assists and the final, winning goal in the fifth round of this evening's shootout.)

Tomorrow we're right back at it again! The Blue Jackets will travel to D.C. and face the Capitals again. I hope this win starts something, and we'd all like a bit of payback and a win against the Caps. YES. The puck drop is set for 5:00 PM.

Go CBJ, and Congratulations, Kirill Marchenko; here's to many more Hattricks for you!
