Columbus Blue Jackets @ L.A. Kings: 3/16/23 Game Recap

Period 1 would end tonight with a 0-0 draw. The Blue Jackets had a solid first 20 minutes, looking like a team that carried over momentum from their Overtime win against the Sharks Tuesday. Daniil Tarasov would have some help in front of his net, but he would need to make 15 saves still. Based on the 0-0 tie after this period, though, you can tell that everything worked out...in this period.

Period 2 would start and carry through to the end for the Kings, showing just how much they want a 2023 Playoff spot. 4:44 would see an opening goal from D. Doughty. 7:42, they would go up 2-0 after a goal from A. Kopitar. Goal three tonight would come for the Kings at 12:36 by way of V. Arvidsson. Then, the last goal of the period would come at 13:48 from C. Grundstrom, giving his Kings a 4-0 lead after four unanswered goals this period. Yikes. It's also unfortunate for Daniil Tarasov, who was replaced in the Blue Jackets net by Michael Hutchinson after that fourth goal. The good news from that swap is that no more Kings goals happened during this period. Still, a 4-0 hole is a lot to dig yourself out of, but it does give some incredible desire to rally. After all, if the Kings can have a spark, we can, too. Period 3, here we come!

In Period 3, we would see the Blue Jackets first goal of the evening. The goal would come at 4:31 and be delivered by Kirill Marchenko. Even though he's only played 43 games in his first NHL Season, this is already his seventeenth goal, which is outstanding for the rookie. Gavin Bayreuther would add his ninth season assist on this Marchenko goal. So, 4-1 Kings over Blue Jackets; sadly, this would be the final score tonight in L.A.

The Blue Jackets will only have a little time to dwell on this game. One of my friends at work, a manager-in-trading, says, "take today, learn from it, and do better tomorrow," which I think applies greatly here tonight. The Blue Jackets started out strong, but as we've seen a lot this season, this dropped off in Period 2, and come Period 3, the hole was too deep to dig themselves out. Come out tomorrow night against the Anaheim Ducks, and start as strong as you finish Blue Jackets. We just saw you do it in San Jose against the Sharks, and we want to see you do it again! The puck drop for that game is 10:00 PM EST. Who knows, maybe we'll have some Luck of the Irish tomorrow? I'm Game (pun intended because we need it tonight!)

Go CBJ!
