Columbus Blue Jackets @ Vegas Golen Knights: 3/19/23 Game Recap

Period 1 would conclude with the Blue Jackets only down by a single goal. The Golden Knights scored at 5:15 in the opening period, thanks to P. Kessel. So, 1-0 Golden Knights lead in Vegas.

The Blue Jackets have done well tying games recently, so Kirill Marchenko scoring his eighteenth goal at 0:37 into Period 2 wasn't very surprising to me. Sadly, the tie wouldn't last, and the Golden Knight would ultimately leave us in the dust. J. Eichel would score at 10:35, P. Dorofeyev would score at 12:09, Z. Whiteclud would score at 16:24, and lastly, J. Eichel would score again at 16:57. So, to wrap this up with a painful bow, all those goals would give the Golden Knights a 5-1, solid lead after Period 2. Daniil Tarasove would also be replaced in net for the Blue Jackets, with Michael Hutchinson, after that Golden Knights fourth goal this period. The fresh goalie would help stop the scoring rupture, but four goals are a lot to make up in Las Vegas.

Going into Period 3, the Blue Jackets would continue playing Lines Musical Chairs: On Ice, trying to find a grove that might pay off. The Golden Knights would go up 6-1 after a goal from P. Cotter at 4:18. J. Eichel would bang in his third goal, for a Hattrick, at 11:27. So, 7-1 Golden Knights over Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets would score one more late goal during Period 3, thanks to Liam Foudy, at 17:45. This is his fifth goal this season. Tim Berni would get his first assist this season on Foudy's goal. Also, with the secondary assist, Patrik Laine now has twenty-eight assists this season! Sadly, the Blue Jackets would go on to lose this game 7-2.

This has been a long road trip for the Blue Jackets, full of time changes and long flights; we're not done yet, either, 5th Line. Our last stop on this five game, ten day trip is Washington D.C. We'll play the Capitals on Tuesday, March 21st. The puck drop against the Capitals is set for 7:00 PM. With Alex Ovechkin back, hunting for Wayne Gretzky's All-Time Goal Total and to put his team in the Playoffs, this will be another high stakes game, no doubt.

Go CBJ!
