Columbus Blue Jackets @ Washington Capitals: 3/21/23 Game Recap

This game would be run by the Capitals in the beginning. The man of the night, and possibly the decade, Alex Ovechkin, would score Goal 1 tonight at 5:12. T. Oshie would then score at 8:19,,, and then C. Sheary would score at 16:00. That would take the Capitals to a quick 3-0 lead over our hometown Blue Jackets. However, before this opening period could end, the Blue Jackets would find their way into the Capitals' net. Eric Robinson scored at 16:45, giving himself nine goals this season! There was just one assist on this goal that would belong to Mathieu Olivier, giving him ten so far this season. This eventful Period 1 would end with a 3-1 Capitals lead and set us up for an equally high-powered Period 2!

The score would go to a 3-2 Capitals lead after Adam Boqvist came out and scored the opening goal in the second period. This gives him four goals so far this season. The primary assist on this goal went to Emil Bemstorm, who now has thirteen. The secondary assist would go to Cole Sillinger, who has eight this season. At 10:36, S. Milano, the former Blue Jacket, would score for the Capitals, brining his team back to a two-goal lead at 4-2. Then, the Blue Jackets would rally again, brining the score within a single goal again! Jack Roslovic would score goal number eight of his season at 15:01 and on the Power Play too. The assists would be a Michigan team-up, as Kent Johnson would add his twenty-first, while Nick Blankenburg would add his tenth. With seconds left, at 19:52, N. Jensen would score. So, after another eventful and hard-fought period, the Capitals would lead 5-3.

In Period 3, the Blue Jackets would come out ready to sting! At 6:37, Adam Boqvist would score his second goal this game and fifth goal this season! Newcomer Lane Pederson would add his third assist this season, while Eric Robinson would add his eleventh. Emil Bemstrom would then score and tie this game for the first time at 5-5! This marks Bemer's sixth goal this season. Patrik Laine now has his jersey number of assists (29) and Johnny Gaudreau would add number forty-seven. Then, at 15:24, N. Jensen would put his Capitals back on top 6-5. Howeveer, don't count us out yet folks! At 19:13, Captain Boone Jenner would even the odd's again at 6-6! This is the Captain's twenty-fourth goal this season and he still leads the team with that amount. Kent Johnson would add his twenty-second assist this season on his Captain's goal, while Patrik Laine now has an even thirty assists.

We'd go to Overtime and that 7-6 victory would be so sweet at 2:43 as Jack Roslovic would add his ninth goal this season and second tonight! The loan assist on this Roslovic goal would go to Johnny Gaudreau, giving him two tonight and forty-eight this season! What. A. Game!  When the ice spray settles, Daniil Tarasov would start and finish a game for the first time in a while; he had 31 saves on 37 shots on his net.

After all of that, we'd have just one Star of the Game tonight, and that would go to the Game Winning Goal Scorer, Mr. Jack Roslovic. (Many players on this team shined tonight, though, and that is why this is sweet, sweet victory. You know, aside from this being a win against the Capitals in D.C.)

We will have some time to recover from this exciting, 2 point night, since our next game isn't until Friday. It's a home game against the New York Islanders; the puck drop is set for 7:00 PM. Hopefully, that game is just as thrilling as this one tonight. Wow!

GO CBJ!
