Seattle Kraken @ Columbus Blue Jackets: Game Recap 3/3/23

With the heartwarming return of Oliver Bjorkstrand to Nationwide arena, tonight's game would kick off with all the feels. However, when the puck dropped, both teams got down to business. Period 1 of this game would be a clinic for Defense and Goaltending lovers alike. It would end with a few great chances on the Power Play, divided between both teams, but this period would end with a 0-0 tie.

Period 2 would be far more eventful. At 10:18, Patrik Laine would add goal eighteen to his 2022-23 NHL Season. Better yet, this was a Power Play goal! Adam Boqvist would have the primary assist, giving him fifteen this season, while Johnny Gaudreau would hit forty with the secondary assist. Unfortunately, with a great assist from Oliver Bjorkstrand, J. McCann would tie the game at 13:20, making it 1-1 all. Then, at 14:08, J. Eberle would also score, giving his Kraken their first lead of the night, 2-1. This would be the score after 40 minutes of play.

The Blue Jackets would tie the game with Adam Boqvist's third goal of the season. This goal would come at 4:53, giving Patrik Laine his twenty-third assist this season. Erik Gudbranson would add the secondary assist on this goal to his season total, giving him twelve. Unfortunately, with a Powerplay goal at 7:12 from former Blue Jacket Alexander Wennberg, and an empty net goal from B. Tanev at 19:12, the Kraken would pull away and win this game 4-2. That said, the Blue Jackets didn't make this an easy win for the Kraken.

Elvis Merzlikins would stop 32 of the 35 Kraken shots on his goal.

Also, Patrik Laine and Adam Boqvist would each have a 1-1-2 night. This would earn Adam Boqvist Star Two of the Game since his goal did tie this game and give his team a fighting chance.

Our next game of the season is tomorrow evening, March 4th, as we pack up to play the Senators. The puck drop is set for 7:00 PM. We'll see if they can bounce back from this loss; I think they can.

Go CBJ!
