St. Louis Blues @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 3/11/23 Game Recap

Period 1 would have a gluten of goals. First, B. Saad would score for the Blues at 7:19. Less than 2 minutes later, the Blue Jackets would match that goal. Patrik Laine would score his twenty-first goal this season at 9:14, which is impressive when you consider how many games he's missed this season due to injury. Johnny Gaudreau would gain the primary assist on this Laine goal, his forty-first assist this season, while the secondary assist would go to Nick Blankenburg, giving him eight. Unfortunately, the Blues would add their second goal of the game at 13:38, thanks to J. Kyrou. Then, they'd add a third before this period ended at 18:07, by way of S. Blais. So, a 3-1 Blues lead after one period of play tonight.

Period 2 would be frozen in time. No one would score, and that 3-1 Blues lead would carry over into Period 3.

Period 3 would hold many chances for the Blue Jackets to score, but the Blues Goalie, Thomas Greiss, had incredible focus. The Blues would strike again, getting a fourth goal past Hutchinson at 12:15; this one was scored by J. Kyrou, marking his second goal of the game. The Blue Jackets wouldn't let the game so easy, though, as Captain Boone Jenner would score the twentieth goal of his season at 15:55. Believe it or not, Kent Johnson now has nineteen assists after his primary one on this Jenner goal! In addition, Johnny Gaudreau would add his second of the game and forty-second of his first season as a Blue Jacket. The score would be 4-2, Blues lead until J. Kyrou would score his third goal (Hattrick) at 18:43. The empty net goal would put this game away for the Blues as they win 5-2.

Again, this was a good game; the Blues Goaltender was just electric, and his team fed off that. That's the headline tonight, hands down.

Our next game will be soon, on March 14th and 5th Line, it's a late one! We will travel to San Jose to take on the Sharks, and the puck drop is set for 10:30. We'll see how the Blue Jackets bounce back and handle a significant time shift then!

Go CBJ!
