Buffalo Sabers @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 4/14/23 (The 2022-23 Final Season Recap!)

Johnny Gaudreau would pick up where he left off last night. He'd score the first goal of tonight's final 2022-23 Columbus Blue Jackets NHL Season at just 0:34 into Period 1! Defenseman Tim Burni would have the primary assist, add his second assist to his NHL Season, while Adam Boqvist would add number nineteen with the secondary. Believe it or not, this would be the only goal this season, meaning a 1-0 Blue Jackets lead.

Now, in Period 2, the Sabers would go on a scoring spree. Jon Gillies would keep them out of our net for nearly half of this game, but J. Skinner would slip one past him at 8:36. This spark would allow another goal for the Sabers at 12:35, scored by V. Olofsson. Then, at 14:01, A. Tuch would pop a third goal for the Sabers. That 3-1 lead for the Sabers would be a big lead to overcome, but at 18:24, Tyler Angle would find the back of the Sabers' net. This is a massive moment as this is only his second NHL Game and his very first NHL Goal! Andrew Peeke would have the primary assist, giving him seven now this season, while Gavin Bayreutheer, with the secondary, now has twelve. So, even after a significant period for the Sabers, they would only take a one-goal lead into the last third period this season.

It looked as if John Gillies would finish up this game and season for the Blue Jackets in net, but before the puck could be dropped, Gillies would return to the bench, and Michael Hutchinson would take over. As we all know, it's tough to come off the bench cold as a goalie, and at 4:03 C, Mittelstadt would shoot his shot past Hutchinson, giving his Sabers a 4-2 lead. Back and forth would ensue until 17:27, when P. Krebs would add a fifth goal to his team's night. This 5-2 lead for the Sabers would turn into your final score as the Blue Jackets fall in their last regular season game of the 2022-23 NHL Season. We finished 31st out of the 32 NHL Teams this season.

Star Three: Tyler Angle (First NHL Goal.)

It has been a bittersweet season for this team as injuries plagued us from the get-go. That said, it was a season full of highs and lows. I will do a full season recap of those moments early next week, as I have a lot to sort through and work tomorrow. To my devoted fans and readers, thank you so much for sticking out the roughest season I've ever covered. Tonight, after the game, Captain Boone Jenner emphasized one word in particular, "hope." This team can give the healthiest teams in this league a run for game points with a mostly AHL Roster; we have a bright future, and I know that's been said a lot, but you can't stop having faith in your team. Many are focused on the 2023 NHL Draft and who we may select but keep sight of the incredible players we already have and will elevate the game of whomever we pick. Tonight, 5th Line, that is the thought I will leave you with.

GO CBJ!
