Anaheim Ducks @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 1024/23 Game Recap

A minor power outage delayed tonight's game by 2 hours, but as always, Columbus Blue Jackets hockey is always worth the wait! The home team would come out swinging tonight with a goal on their third powerplay of the opening period. Emil Bemstorm would have his first goal this season at 16:49! Ivan Proverov is on a roll this season; he has five assists so far, picking up his fifth on this Bemstrom goal. The secondary assist would go to our first-round draft pick this year, Adam Fantill, giving him two so far this season. This would be the only goal in the first 20 minutes, so the Blue Jackets would take a 1-0 lead into the second period.

This second period would have just one goal, belonging to the Ducks. A puck steal would lead to two Ducks against Elvis Merzlikins in net. The first shot wouldn't result in a score but instead deflected off Merlikins' glove and back into play, where Ryan Strone would score at 15:49. So, we'd have a new game going to period three with a 1-1 tie in Nationwide Arena.

Adam Fantilli's first NHL goal happened on the road in Minnesota vs the Wild this past weekend. So, he was due to have the cannon blast for him at home. At  9:13 in period three, that would finally happen as Fantilli would score his second goal this season and first in Nationwide Arena! Jack Roslovic and Jake Bean would both have an assist on this goal, each gaining their second assist this season. The ducks would not quack quietly into our good night; they would score again at 16:13, thanks to Brett Leason. With just under three minutes to play, the Blue Jackets would have another powerplay, but it wouldn't amount to the goal they needed. So, you know what that means: 5th Line, overtime!

The Blue Jackets would have a few reasonable attempts, but none connected to the back of the Duck's net. Their first attempt would be another fantastic save for Elvis Merzlikins, but their second shot by Frank Vatrano at 2:20 would break through. So, the Ducks win 3-2 in overtime, but we would still gain a point as we go to 3-2-1. This was still an incredible game and a great showing by the Blue Jackets team. We also had Emil Bemstrom's first NHL goal this season, and Adam Fantilli would have his first multipoint game 1-1-2.  Also, Adam Fantilli would have the second star tonight and be the only Blue Jacket to be named one of tonight's three.

Our next game will be Thursday, October 26th, as the Blue Jackets travel to Canada for the first time this season. They will play the Montreal Canadians at 7:00 p.m.

Go CBJ!
