Arizona Coyotes @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 11/16/23 Game Recap

For my Cincinnati Bengals fans watching your team on Thursday Night Football, I've got you covered!

Period 1 was a lot of back and forth; good hockey, but no goals. Period 2 had way more zest. Damon Severson would give the Blue Jackets the first goal and lead of the evening at 1:45! Dmitri Voronkov would gain an assist, his sixth this season. Also, with the secondary assist on this goal, Ivan Proverov takes his total assists to eleven this season. Unfortunately, at 5:20, Barrett Hayton would match our goal with one of his own for the Coyotes. Bummer, I know, but with no other goals scored, we'd start a quest for the next tiebreaker goal.

That goal would come for the Coyotes after a penalty on Dmitri Voronkov. The powerplay goal would be scored at 9:38. This goal would be followed by another just a few seconds later from Lawson Crouse at 10:06. With the Blue Jackets in a two-goal-hole, the team would get to work, trying to gain the upper hand again. In 'better late than never fashion,' Damon Severson would pop his second goal of the night into the Coyotes' net at 18:03. The goal would come from a six-on-five situation after taking Merzlikins from the Blue Jackets' goal. This would give Zach Werenski his ninth assist this season while Alexander Texxier adds number three. The 1:57 remaining time wouldn't be enough to find that tying goal, though, and the final would be 3-2.

When comparing now to this time last year, this game was definitely better than our first meeting with the Coyotes last season. Less we forget the booing fans who felt that was necessary.

It was a .906% for Merzlikins tonight in net; he stopped 29 shots. The Coyotes had 32 tonight.

I hope everyone had a fantastic evening at Hockey Fight Cancer Night. It's a special night, and for someone watching family members go through cancer treatment, I want to congratulate everyone who has won the battle and encourage those till fighting to continue.

Our next game will be a fun one! We travel to D.C. and will play the Capitals at 7:30 p.m. on November 18. This would be the perfect comeback; we'll see if it happens!

Go CBJ!
