Boston Bruins @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 11/27/23 Game Recap

Oh, it's good to be back! Friday's win on the road against the New Jersey Devils was sweet, and last night's narrow loss against the Carolina Hurricanes stung. So, tonight, I was looking forward to an excellent game to recap, and boy, did I get my wish!

Period one would have a single goal, but that's all Dmitri Voronkov would need to give the home team a 1-0 lead! This goal at 15:52 marks his fourth goal of the young season, and Yegor Chinakov, with the only assist on this goal, adds his second this season. So, a 1-0 Blue Jackets lead after twenty minutes.

In the second twenty minutes, the Blue Jackets would double their goal-scoring in the first. Ivan Proverov would kick it off, taking the Jackets to a 2-0 lead at 5:38. This goal would have a primary assist from David Jiricek, his third this season, and the secondary assist would go to Cole Sillinger, his eighth this season. Then, at 16:42, Yegor Chinakov would give himself a multi-point game with his second goal this season, taking the Blue Jackets to a 3-0 lead after forty minutes.

The Blue Jackets wouldn't be done scoring yet, though. At 4:51, the Blue Jackets would cash in tonight on a powerplay for the first time, thanks to Kirill Marchenko's seventh goal this season! That's a 4-0 lead for the Blue Jackets over the Bruins! Boone Jenner would keep his points flowing with the primary assist on this goal, giving him four this season. The secondary assist, on the other hand, would be Patrik Laine's second this season. Now, the Bruins would spoil the shutout hope with a goal from Mathew Poitras at 8:24. With a lot of time left, the Bruins would opt to add a sixth player to the ice and remove their goalie from the net. Justin Danforth would pop one into that open net at 13:41, giving the Blue Jackets a 5-1 lead and himself his sixth goal this season. Sean Kuraly would add his fourth assist with the primary on this goal, while Boone Jenner would add his fifth assist and second of the game with the secondary. A few minutes later, at 17:38, John Beacher would get a shot past Spencer Martin. So, the Blue Jackets would lead and go on to win 5-2.

I have to say, this game tonight, in my opinion, is the best one they've played all season. The offense, defense, and goaltending all clicked, and the final score shows that. I know we beat the Chicago Blackhawks with Conner Bedard last week 7-3. That was impressive, but the Boston Bruins are on another level. They won the President's Trophy in 2023, and they are currently the first-place team in their division (Atlantic.) This win tonight is something special for the Blue Jackets. Our guys earned this tonight, and they have every right to celebrate!

Spencer Martin would finish with a .941% thanks to his 32 stops on the Boston Bruins 34 shots. This was a huge night for him, and he worked so hard for those numbers.

Another huge moment tonight, this is the first time that the NHL has seen four separate Russian-born players score for one team in a single game. Wow!

Wednesday night will be special in Nationwide Arena. I mean, every game is, but this one will be extra special as the organization honors their new leader in games played, Captain Boone Jenner. Recently, he played his 675th game, topping Rick Nash's record. We will play the Montreal Canadians at 7:00 p.m. as we start for our next win!

GO CBJ!
