Chicago Blackhawks @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 11/22/23 (THE GAME RECAP YOU"VE BEEN WAITING FOR!)

5TH LINE, LET'S GO!

I told you this kind of game was coming, so if you gave up on this team, you can't sit with us. (Mean Girls reference, and yes, it is justified.) Captain Boone Jenner gets us going at 2:57, scoring his ninth goal this season! Zach Werencki has assist eleven on this goal, while Adam Boqvist celebrates his first! Next, it's Erik Gudbranson's turn to score his second of the season at 8:46. The only assist on this goal goes to Kiril Marchenko, who marks his sixth so far. Then, oh yes, it continues, another goal for Captain Boone Jenner, and on the powerplay, too! This goal came at 13:55, giving Johnny Gudreau his sixth assist this season and Zach Werenski his second tonight and a total of twelve. Now, of course, Conner Bedard, the 2023 Pick 1, Round 1, would score a goal at 15:41. That said, the Blue Jackets would still have a two-goal lead (3-1) going into period 2.

Cole Sillinger, goal one of his season, 7:32. It's been a long time coming for him. Zach Werenski tacks on his third assist tonight on this goal, thirteen total at this point in the game this season. The secondary assist goes to Yegor Chinakov, and congrats to him on his first assist this season. Next? How about Dmitri Voronkov, who scored his third goal this season at 12:16. Cole Sillinger adds an assist to his goal tonight, giving him seven total this season. And then, again, there's Zach Werenski with his fourth assist tonight and fourteenth this season. 5th Line, Zach Werenski just made Franchise history for the second time in as many weeks with that assist; now, the defenseman has had four assists in one game before! Oh, and guess what? The goals don't stop there! Up next? Kirill Marchenk at 16:28 with his fifth goal this season. Adam Boquist would gain a second assist tonight and this season on this Marchenko goal. Also, we have to get Ivan Proverov in on the mix. His secondary assist on this goal gives him twelve so far this season. At 18:40, we'd have another two Blue Jackets get on the point sheet. With the seventh goal tonight, Patrik Laine gives himself two this season. The only assist on this goal would mark six for Adam Fantilli. Wow, I'm optimistic, you all know that, but 7-1 with twenty to go? Oh, yes, please!

Now, the Blackhawks would get a goal back at 6:06 into the third period, thanks to Jason Dickinson. Beyond this, I can summarize this period with one name: Elvis Merzlikins. The amount of shots he denied and the breakaways he prevented from being goals was impressive. Ryan Donato would eventually get one past Merzlikins, though, after a rebound at 18:41. That would be all she wrote for the Blackhawks, and the Blue Jackets losing streak is OVER! 7-3 is the final score in Nationwide Arena, and let's be thankful for a tremendous pre-holiday win!

Cole Sillinger 1-1-2 Third Star

Boone Jenner 2-0-2 Second Star

Zach Werenski 0-4-4 First Star (A new record for him as he becomes the first defenseman to accomplish 4 assists in a single game!)

What. A. Night.

I will be working during Friday's game at 3:00 p.m., so there will not be a recap that day. Sorry, 5th Line, that's retail! I hope you all have a fantastic and safe Thanksgiving. Good luck to the Blue Jackets on Friday as they head to New Jersey and face the Devils!

GO CBJ!
