Columbus Blue Jackets @ Philidelphia Flyers: 1/4/24 Game Recap

Let's start with the anticipation of who the Columbus Blue Jackets player selected to the Toronto 2024 NHL All-Star Game would be. It's amazing to type that it will be Boone Jenner, our Captain, playing in that game. After all he's done for the game and the mark he's put on this franchise, I'm so happy to see him finally get his All-Star bid. Many fans are concerned that Jenner won't be back in time to play in the All-Star Game. That said, it seems his recovery from a fractured jaw is going well, and everything suggests he's on track to be back in time to participate. So, double good news to kick us off tonight. Before that injury, Jenner had thirteen goals, five assists, and a total of eighteen points. I'm sure that now, more than ever, he looks forward to adding to those numbers soon.

Now, on to the game recap! This was a quiet game for the first forty minutes. The only goal was in period one, scored at 17:13. Funny enough, Travis Konecny scored that lone goal, and he'll see Boone Jenner in the 2024 All-Star Game. This game was riddled with penalties on both ends of the ice, but I'm sure the 5th Line wanted to see the Blue Jackets score in the third, powerplay goal or not! I, of course, felt the same.

The first goal of this final regulation period would be Travis Konecny doubling up at 4:29. But, just seconds later, the Blue Jackets would avoid the road shutout and find some life thanks to Damon Severson's fifth goal this season! Adam Fantilli gets back on the score sheet again with his thirteenth assist this season, while Jake Christiansen gets his first. Then, a few minutes later, at 10:20, Jake Bean's third goal this season would bring us to a 2-2 tie! The only assist on this goal would be the seventh this season for Jack Roslovic. For anyone needing clarification, this had been originally Roslovic's goal, but it was changed just a few minutes later. This period would close with that tie at 2-2, and overtime would pass by in a blink, leading us to just the second shootout of the 2023-24 Blue Jackets season!

With Johnny Gaudreau coming through with a pretty 'Johnny Hockey' goal in round two and Daniil Tarasov stopping all three shots of the Flyers, the Blue Jackets would claim two points tonight! What a tremendous come-from-behind win on the road. Speaking of Daniil Tarasov, he had an epic night with a .951% thanks to his 39 saves on 41 total Flyers shots. Wow.

Our next game is at home this weekend, on Saturday, January 6th. The game will be at 7:00 p.m. as the Minnesota Wild come to Columbus.

Go CBJ!
