Seattle Kraken @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 1/13/24 Game Recap

For a blogger who was prepared for the worst but hoping for the best tonight, I was thoroughly impressed by how our Blue Jackets played. The first goal would belong to a Blue Jacket, Ivan Provorov, at 1:41 into the game. It marks his third this season and his first on his twenty-seventh birthday. This goal would have one assist from Adam Fantilli, giving him fourteen. Jordan Eberle would get the Kraken's first goal past Daniil Tarasov at 11:37. Butt, have no fear, Ivan Proverov is here with his second goal tonight and his fifth this season at 12:10! Kirill Marchenko would jump into double-digit assists with his tenth on this goal, while Andrew Peek finds his fifth this season with the secondary. Of course, the hot Seattle Kraken couldn't let us lead 2-1 after twenty minutes of play; they'd have to score again and did at 15:31, thanks to Jared McCann. After a rich first period, it would be a brand new game going into period two.

Period two would see the Blue Jackets take the lead tonight for the third time, with Kirill Marchanko's fourteenth goal this season at 4:43. Adam Boqvist takes his assist total to six while Johnny Gaudreau bumps himself up to nineteen. Alas, this 3-2 lead wouldn't last long either as Tye Kartye would score for the Kraken at 8:65, and then at 13:42, former Blue Jacket Oliver Bjorkstrand would give his team the lead, 4-3. This is how the second period would end.

After another two goals by the Kraken, one from Jared McCann at 6:17 and another from Brian Dumoulin at 8:28, I was confused about why Elvis Merzlikins didn't tag out Daniil Tarasov. But, hey, that's just my thought. Emil Bemstorm would score for the Blue Jackets again at 12:29, giving Kent Johnson his eighth assist this season and Andrew Peek his sixth. The Kraken would get their seventh and final goal from Eeli Tolvanen at 18:55 and seal their 7-4 win.

This game was good for the Blue Jackets, considering the Kraken are riding a successful hot streak. And, who knows, the Blue Jackets can get some revenge in a few weeks when they head to Seattle to play on their home ice.

Our next game is on Monday at 1:00 p.m., so take note! The Vancouver Canucks will take a trip to the States.

Go CBJ!
