Vancouver Canucks @ Columbus Blue Jackets: 1/15/24 Game Recap

Happy Hockey Is For Everyone 2024! As a woman and someone with a disability, this day is so special to me. It's a great day to highlight that anyone can play this game, and I am truly grateful this day still exists. Now, let's recap a hockey game!

J.T. Miller would make a puck play leap-frog over Elvis Merzlikins' glove attempt to stop the score at 5:28. The Canucks would lead 1-0, but only for a few seconds as Yegor Chinakov's eleventh goal this season would bring the game to a 1-1 tie just twenty-seven seconds later! This goal would also give Johnny Gaudreau his twentieth assist this season! Unfortunately, Coner Garland would rain on the Blue Jacket's parade as he'd send the Canucks' second goal of the day past Merzlikins at 14:54. That said, for how many shots he faced on net and how long he's been kept from the game for whatever reason, he had a great first period along with the Blue Jackets.

The second twenty minutes of play would see the visiting Canucks and Blue Jackets swap goals. First, the home team would tie the game, thanks to Dmitri Voronkov! It's number 10's eighth goal this season, and he's really making a name for himself here. This goal would add a seventh assist for Adam Boqvist and give Johnny Gaudreau a multipoint night and his twenty-first assist. Elias Pettersson would match this goal at 7:35, though, and the Canucks' would find their one-goal lead again, maintaining it going into the last period of regulation.

The Blue Jackets, and more specifically Dmitri Voronkov, wouldn't be done yet, though! With his second goal this afternoon and ninth this season, Voronkov would score again at 10:57. With just one assist on this goal, Jack Roslovic takes his assist total to eight. With the game tied again, Nationwide Arena would start rocking, and the Blue Jackets would hold off the Canucks to force overtime and take at least one point today!

This overtime would consist of the Blue Jackets killing a powerplay for the Canucks', and even then they couldn't score. That said, neither could we, so on to a shootout we go!

This shootout would go to round four when Kirill Marchenko would score, and Elvis would put the breaks on the Canucks one last time for the WIN! The Blue Jackets get both points on Hockey Is For Everyone 2024 and win against the team with the most points in the NHL currently, 4-3 in a shootout! Yeah, baby, go, Elvis, GO CBJ!

Our guys get a few days off and will return to their home ice on Friday. The New Jersey Devils travel here for a faceoff at 7:00 p.m.

GO CBJ!
