Columbus Blue Jackets @ L.A. Kings: 2/20/24 Game Recap

It's another two-day game in California! This game would be entertaining for all the weird reasons, so let's talk about it, 5th Line. The Blue Jackets would score first, thanks to Johnny Gaudreau, but remember, I promised entertainment for weird reasons! Boone Jenner would skate into a Kings' Defenseman, and that Defenseman would fall into the Kings' Goaltender. To those watching and listening as a Blue Jackets fan, it was no surprise that Johnny Gudreau's goal was wiped from the scoreboard quickly. To add insult to injury, the Kings would get a puck past Elvis Merzlikins before this period would conclude. It would come from Quinton Byfield at 18:22.

The single-goal deficit was obtainable by the Blue Jackets, but then former Blue Jacket Pierre-Luc Dubois (PLD) would score just 1:27 into the second period. I know, folks; remember, I'm just telling you what happened. Making matters worse, this is a gifted goal, as they were on a powerplay. At 4:41, Adam Boqvist would gift us for staying up into the 21st of February with his first goal this season! Congratulations to him, as he's gone through a lot this season and deserves some success! It's the sixth assist for Boone Jenner, keeping his point streak going. In addition, Jack Roslovic enters the double-digit assist club with his tenth. Unfortunately, the Kings would score two more times, but only another goal from Pierre-Luc Dubois would count at 11:49. Yes, the Kings would have a goal removed from the scoreboard, too, in this period. So, even with the Blue Jackets in the hole by two goals, the amount of goals in this game removed from the scoreboard would be even. It doesn't really matter, but important to mention, I think.

This final regulation period would go without a goal until 15:56. The Kings' Kevin Fiala would pop one past Elvis, giving his team a three-goal lead on yet another powerplay. A final fifth goal at 19:37 puts this game on ice, and it's a Hollywood ending for the Kings. The empty net would be shot by Drew Doughty, and that's all she wrote, folks. Seriously, this is a game where the team should forget. The good news is that we play in Anaheim tomorrow night against the Ducks at 10:00 p.m. Ohio time. So, no time to dwell; just skate on CBJ.

Go CBJ!
