Columbus Blue Jackets @ Ottawa Senators: 2/13/24 Game Recap

This game was full of goals, so let's dive straight into it. The Blue Jackets would come out of the gate and score the first goal tonight for their first road game since the NHL All-Star break. This would be Dmitri Voronkov's thirteenth goal of the season, and given it's the 13th, it's a lucky day for him. With his goal at 7:11, Kent Johnson would add his tenth assist, joining the double-digit club, and Kirill Marchenko takes himself to twelve. Unfortunately, the Senators would bounce back quickly from the Blue Jackets' early lead. Brady Tkachuk would score at 9:48 and 10:38. In addition, his teammate Claude Giroux would also score at 14:46. Even with another goal being challenged by the Blue Jackets and ultimately removed, they would find themselves down two after the opening period.

Ridly Greig would tack on a fourth goal for the home team at 5:37, making it a 4-1 lead. But then, through the fog, Captain Boone Jenner would bring some light to the party with his sixteenth goal this season! The goal would come at 10:41, giving him three in the past two games. Oh, Captain, our All-Star Captain! Johnny Gaudreau adds his twenty-eighth assist, while Zach Werenski adds his twenty-ninth. Rossie (Jack Roslovic) would get in on the scoring fun at 13:54 with his third goal this season. This goal gives Erik Gudbranson his twelfth assist this season and Jacke Bean his fifth. Sadly, the tying goal would happen, Brady Tkachuk would shoot his third past Daniil Tarasov tonight, and there's the hat trick. So, even with two goals scored in the middle period, they'd still find themselves down two going into the final regulation period.

Try as they might, the Blue Jackets couldn't score this period. The Senators would score again at 19:52, thanks to a wide-open Blue Jackets net that Erik Brannstrom hit. So, the Senators take this game 6-3. The push to try and come back never died for the Blue Jackets, and that's the positive takeaway from tonight.

The team will have some time off until Saturday, and Elvis Merzlikins will be well enough to play against the Sharks of San Jose. This will be a late game, with a puck drop set for 10:30 p.m. in Columbus.

Go CBJ!
